Gov Idris celebrates Nigeria’s anniversary with students, assures better days for teachers in Kebbi State

Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, on Wednesday hosted primary and secondary school students as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.
The memorable event, held at the Presidential Banquet Hall in Birnin Kebbi, featured a luncheon for the visibly excited students and their teachers drawn from across the state.
In his remarks, Governor Idris described the day as historic, noting that it was a time for sober reflection on the journey of the nation and the vision of its founding fathers.
He expressed delight in celebrating with the students, describing them as the future leaders of Kebbi and Nigeria.
According to him, the APC-led administration in the state places great priority on education, assuring that the sector would continue to receive maximum attention.
He emphasized that education remains free in Kebbi State and urged students to study hard in order to prepare themselves for leadership roles in the future.
On teachers’ welfare, the Governor said they had never had it so good in the last two years, pledging to address all issues affecting them.
He disclosed that his administration is working on more robust welfare packages for teachers, while assuring the continued prompt payment of salaries, gratuities and other entitlements.
Dr. Idris extolled the dedication and patriotism of teachers in Kebbi, commending their punctuality and commitment to duty.
He also expressed satisfaction that public school students in the state were performing better than many of their peers in private schools, promising to sustain the feat.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Commissioner for Basic Education, Dr. Halima Bande, described the Governor’s physical presence at the event as a source of joy for both teachers and students.
She applauded him for prioritizing education and highlighted some of his major achievements, including the recruitment of 2,000 qualified teachers, the elongation of teachers’ years of service, and sustained payment of WAEC fees for Kebbi students.
She urged the students to be disciplined, embrace the reading culture, and remain good ambassadors of the state.
The event also featured colorful cultural performances by students showcasing Nigeria’s rich diversity.
