On this Global Day of Parents, Smiles Africa International Youth Development Initiative (SAIYDI) joins the global community in celebrating parents and caregivers whose love, sacrifice, and dedication lay the foundation for healthy families and thriving communities.

The 2026 theme, "Together for Parents," reminds us that parenting is a shared responsibility. Parents need the support of governments, schools, healthcare systems, community leaders, civil society organizations, and the private sector to provide children and young people with opportunities to reach their full potential.

As an organization committed to empowering African youth and promoting health, human rights, education, social inclusion, and sustainable development, SAIYDI recognizes that strong families are essential to building a better future for Africa.

Today, we call on all stakeholders to strengthen policies and programs that support parents, protect children, promote family well-being, and create safe, inclusive, and enabling environments where every child and young person can thrive.

Today, Smiles Africa International Youth Development Initiative paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Barrister Olabisi Idaomi, in Benin City, to formally submit a summary of the World Social Summit for Social Development held in Doha last year.

The Doha Summit brought together global leaders, ministers, and civil society actors to renew commitments toward ending poverty, reducing inequality, promoting decent work, and strengthening inclusive social protection systems. The outcome the Doha Political Declaration emphasized that global commitments must translate into local action, ensuring that no one is left behind.

During our visit, we highlighted key resolutions from the summit and discussed how these global priorities align with Edo State’s humanitarian and social development efforts. The engagement provided an opportunity to explore stronger collaboration in advancing support for vulnerable populations, youth empowerment, and sustainable community development.

At Smiles Africa, we remain committed to bridging global conversations with local impact.
