*INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD: AND WHY CORNERSTONE ORPHANAGE, BAUCHI REFUSES TO LEAVE ANY GIRL BEHIND*

_October 11th, 2026 — Special Feature_

Today, the world marks the *International Day of the Girl Child*. A day declared by the United Nations to amplify the voice of the girl, to protect her rights, and to invest in her future.

The theme for this year says it clearly: *"Invest in Girls' Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being."*

But in a small corner of Bauchi, this theme is not just a slogan. It is a daily practice. At *Cornerstone Orphanage Bauchi*, the girl child is not an afterthought. She is the priority.

# # # The Reality We See

In Northern Nigeria, many girls face a double burden. Orphaned, vulnerable, and then told that being a girl is a limitation. Early marriage, lack of education, and neglect often cut short their dreams before they even start.

At Cornerstone, we met girls who came to us with empty hands but heavy stories. Aisha who lost both parents at 7. Grace who was sent away because her family could not afford school. Zainab who was told "school is not for girls."

Today, those same girls are topping their classes.

# # # How Cornerstone Orphanage Bauchi Is Involved

*1. Education First, Always:*
At Cornerstone, no girl is out of school. We pay full school fees, buy full educational materials, and ensure they stay in school from Primary to Secondary. We also pay their full *WACE and NECO fees* — because a girl’s final exam should not be her final bus stop. This year, 8 of our 12 SS3 candidates are girls.

*2. Dignity and Safety:*
We provide safe, separate hostels for girls, menstrual hygiene kits every month, and counseling sessions where girls are taught self-worth, body rights, and personal hygiene. A girl who knows her dignity will defend her destiny.

*3. Skills Beyond School:*
We teach our girls more than ABC. We teach them tailoring, computer literacy, baking, and small business skills. We want them to be employable, not just educated.

*4. Voice and Leadership:*
Our girls lead morning assembly. Our girls debate. Our girls preach. On International Day of the Girl Child, our girls will speak — because when you give a girl a microphone, she gives the world a vision.

# # # Her Name is Tomorrow

A girl from Cornerstone is not a charity case. She is a future doctor who will heal Bauchi. A future teacher who will teach Bauchi. A future leader who will govern Bauchi.

When you educate a boy, you educate one person. When you educate a girl from Cornerstone Orphanage, you educate a generation.

This October 11th, we at Cornerstone Orphanage Bauchi are not just celebrating the girl child. We are investing in her. We are feeding her. We are schooling her. We are believing in her.

*Join Us.*
Support a girl child today at Cornerstone Orphanage Bauchi. Sponsor her WACE fee. Buy her a textbook. Provide her dignity kit.

Because a girl with a cornerstone can build any future.
