CASCADE Nigeria has expanded its intervention to 3 more LGAs in Jigawa State.

From its coverage of project implementation in 9 LGAs across Jigawa and Kebbi States (Jahun, Kafin Hausa, Dutse, Ringim, Kiyawa, Birnin Kebbi, Suru, Bunza and Argungu), it has expanded to Kaugama, Hadejia and Birnin Kusu LGAs in Jigawa State (making it a total of 12 LGAs across the two states) in order to increase access and consumption of healthy diets to reduce malnutrition among women of reproductive age and children under the age of 15.

To begin this expansion, CASCADE Nigeria successfully held inception meetings across the newly added LGAs, bringing together local government officials, traditional leaders, women representatives, and community stakeholders.
During the meetings, the CASCADE team shared a clear overview of the project and its focus on nutrition improvement, food security, women’s empowerment, community resilience and engagement, strengthened nutrition services, and practical, sustainable support for households.
Local governments were encouraged to play active roles through collaboration, participation, and community mobilization when needed to ensure the project provides a lasting impact.

The meeting ended with strong positivity, as stakeholders expressed readiness and commitment to fully embrace CASCADE project and work together to address nutrition challenges in their communities.

These inception meetings mark an important first step community entrance, laying a strong foundation for local ownership, partnership, and successful implementation.

Let's work together hopefully as the CASCADE project starts its interventions across the new LGAs and continues expanding its impact.

Across Arugungu, Bunza, Birnin Kebbi, and Suru LGAs in Kebbi State, the CASCADE Project, in collaboration with Ency Food, is bringing nutrition closer to home through practical cooking demonstrations.

Women of reproductive age and caregivers of young children are learning how to prepare nutrient-packed mixed Tom Brown using familiar, affordable ingredients they already know and produce—such as millet, soybeans, groundnuts, and dates. By combining these local foods, families create a nutritious meal that supports healthy growth and development for children while improving mothers’ nutrition.

More than just a meal, this simple solution strengthens household food security and empowers communities with the knowledge to make healthier food choices. Because when families know how to cook better, malnutrition can truly become a thing of the past.

As the 16 Days of Activism comes to a close, the CASCADE Project brought together CSOs, Kebbi State Ministries, persons with disabilities, religious and traditional leaders, Enforcement Agencies, men, women, and young people for a powerful engagement on a critical issue of our time digital violence against women and girls.

Under the 2025 global theme, “Unite to End Digital Violence Against Women and Girls,” the event created a safe space for learning, dialogue, and action. Adolescents were educated on digital safety, responsible social media use, and how to report online abuse, while teachers, parents, and state stakeholders were engaged on building a supportive and protective online environment. Community conversations also spotlighted the growing threats of cyber bullying, sexual harassment, blackmail, image-based abuse, and exploitation and the urgent need for collective action.

We believe that while digital platforms open doors for education, entrepreneurship, and advocacy, they must also be safe for everyone. By encouraging boys and men to become allies and empowering communities to take ownership, CASCADE is driving awareness and inspiring action to make digital spaces safer, more inclusive, and free from violence. Lets keep it Safe for Her!

The CASCADE Project held a 2 day training for Nutrition Champions and Case Managers across the four implementing LGAs (Birnin Kebbi, Arugungu, Bunza, Suru) in Kebbi State, bringing them under one roof to build their Capacity.
The training was all about strengthening community level action against malnutrition. Participants learned how to better identify, manage, and refer nutrition related cases, while also supporting families to adopt healthier feeding and dietary habits.
The training was equipped with interactive secessions, presentations slides by the Nutrition Officer, Group work and role play, case studies and problem solving, practical secessions on how to use the MUAC tape, and weighing scale. With these strengthened capacities, our champions and case managers are now better equipped to connect households to essential nutrition services and ensure timely support for children and women who need it most.

For years, communities in Langtang South and Mikang walked long distances for water, battled waterborne diseases, and struggled through every dry season.

But now, that story changes.

FAcE-PaM proudly commissions a new borehole that brings life, health, and opportunity back to Mabudi, Dadin Kowa, and Garkawa; made possible with funding from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

World Food Day, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly to mark the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), is celebrated every year on October 16. It serves as an important platform to raise awareness and inspire action against global hunger and malnutrition while focusing on building a better future for food, people, and the planet through inclusive campaigns and farmer-friendly policies. This global vision aligns perfectly with the goals of the CASCADE Project, which seeks to improve food security and reduce malnutrition among women of reproductive age and children under five.
The 2025 World Food Day theme, “Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future,” emphasizes the importance of working together, governments, organizations, communities, and individuals to create a peaceful, sustainable, and food-secure world for all.
In Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, FAcE-PaM joined the global celebration by bringing together women and men from various communities to raise awareness about hunger and food insecurity. The event highlighted how millions of people are affected by malnutrition and encouraged communities to understand and prioritize food security as a shared responsibility.
The celebration also promoted sustainable agriculture, advocating for farming practices that protect the environment, boost food production, and strengthen local economies. It created space for research, education, and innovation in agriculture helping farmers discover new ways to improve yields, reduce food waste, and build a resilient food system.
Additionally, FAcE-PaM demonstrated cooking methods using various local food, showcasing how community-driven efforts can make a difference. The day concluded with a call to encourage local action empowering people to take charge of their food systems, promote self-sufficiency, and adopt healthy eating habits for a stronger, nourished future.

20/10/2025

Handwashing with soap is one of the simplest and most powerful ways to prevent disease, yet it remains overlooked in many communities across Nigeria and beyond. As part of its commitment to healthier communities, the CASCADE project joined the 2025 Global Handwashing Day celebration in Kebbi State under the theme “Be a Handwashing Hero.”

This theme reminds us that heroes are not only found in uniforms or offices; anyone, from a child in school to a community leader, can be a hero by promoting clean hands and safe hygiene practices. The event brought together women, men, stakeholders, and health advocates with a shared message: protecting public health is a collective responsibility.

Through the celebration, CASCADE sought to raise awareness, deepen community involvement, and inspire behavioral change. The goal was not just to mark a day, but to foster a culture where handwashing becomes a daily habit in homes, health facilities, schools, and public spaces. By strengthening community engagement and supporting access to basic facilities like soap and water, the project continues to champion a future where preventable diseases are reduced and dignity is preserved.

Progress depends on the actions we take together. Clean hands protect lives. When communities embrace this simple act, they build resilience, enhance wellbeing, and safeguard the health of all.
