Jama’atu Shababil Islam is an Islamic youth organization registered in Nigeria since 2008 by the provision under section 5 of the Nigerian cooperative societies Decree No: 90 of 1999 with registration NO: BA 12560. However, before the organization’s registration, its activities predates the Pre- Sharia era in Bauchi state where the organization serves as the major pressure group that fought for th
e actualization of the Sharia in Bauchi state. Many Islamic scholars had serves as the Organization’s Chairmen Board of Trustees but the long serving Chairman of the Organization was an elder statesman of blessed memory the late Sa’i of Katagum …….. Within the span of the period under review, the organization had produced six leaders as follows: Malam Bashir Ahmad as pioneer chairman followed by Alhaji Sa’ad Bn Adam, Malam Abubakar Shabab, Sheikh Hassan Usman Zango, Malam Ibrahim Babaji Ibrahim and now Sheikh Dr. Salisu Isa Sa’id. The operational framework of the organization is basically promoting the actualization of a virile society and productive youth through the religion of Islam and Sunnah of the prophet Muhammad (SAW) and also instituting wholesome and God fearing leaders for the state and the country through the practice of democracy. The political participation of the organization predates 2003, where the organization actively participated in collaboration with the Buhari organization (TBO) covering the entire Bauchi state as various grades agents of the 2003 presidential election. The organization equally participated in the 2007 general election, where in collaboration and strong synergy with Bauchi state Muslim parliament (Shura), the two organizations tremendously assisted the then ANPP candidate (Malam Dr. Isa Yuguda) to become the first opposition candidate to won the Governorship position of Bauchi state. The consolidation of the Shabab’s support to Yuguda’s administration through various activities and programs beginning earlier in the life of the administration since 2008 helps its re-election bid in the 2011 general election. The Organization had assisted many communities towards actualization of their Mosques and Islamiyya schools. Since its inception, the Organization had made it a tradition to organize annual seminar where a number of scholars, students and Islamic organizations meet to deliberate on contemporary topics for Islamic and community development. The Organization had once becomes successful in securing the mandate from Yuguda’s administration for Islamiyya school teachers to be enjoying monthly allowances from the government throughout the Yuguda’s administration tenure.
