Meet Uwa, a young lady who represents the countless youths in our society who dare to stand out and make a difference, even when no one is watching. In her community, opportunities were limited and hope was slowly fading among children and teenagers. Instead of accepting things as they were, she chose to take a bold step toward change.
Uwa noticed that many children around her lacked access to basic learning resources, and most of them were gradually losing interest in education. She didn’t wait for a perfect moment, she didn’t wait for a big platform. She simply started. With a few books, a table, and an open heart, she created a small learning space for the children in her neighbourhood.
That small beginning became the spark for something greater. More children gathered. Volunteers joined. Partners became interested. Through Uwa’s consistency, she organized free lessons, mentorship sessions, and skill development activities for young people.
Her story reflects the truth that leadership doesn’t always start with a title, it starts with a choice. The choice to act. The choice to care. The choice to stand out, even when others stay silent.
Today, many communities across Nigeria have young people like Uwa, doing their best to create positive change, one small step at a time. Their work may not always make headlines, but their impact transforms lives.
At OLEVE Foundation, we celebrate these everyday heroes who remind us that there is no such thing as “small change”. Every effort matters. Every act of kindness counts. Together, they move communities forward.
