*UHUNMWODE LGA INVITES CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS TO WITNESS ISIWINA HARVEST OF HOPE FOOD INITI ATIVE*
*17th June 2026*
As part of efforts to promote transparency, accountability, and community participation in governance, the Uhunmwode Local Government Council has extended invitations to Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to witness the flag-off and distribution of food baskets under the ISIWINA Harvest of Hope (IHH) Food Initiative.
The event, which is the brainchild of the Executive Chairman of Uhunmwode Local Government Council, Hon. Austin Rotimi Imafidon (ISIWINA), is scheduled to hold on: Monday, June 22, 2026, at the Primary Health Centre, Eyean, Uhunmwode Local Government Area, commencing at 10:00 a.m.
According to the Council Chairman, the initiative is designed to provide dignified food support to vulnerable members of society, particularly widows, the elderly, and other disadvantaged groups, through a structured and organized food basket distribution system.
Hon. Imafidon noted that the programme goes beyond humanitarian assistance, emphasizing that it is also aimed at encouraging the consumption and patronage of locally produced food items and agricultural products.
He explained that the initiative aligns with the broader vision of building a self-reliant economy driven by local production and consumption, thereby supporting local farmers, traders, and small-scale producers while strengthening food security within the communities.
The Chairman further stated that the Harvest of Hope Initiative seeks to cushion the effects of rising food costs and improve access to balanced nutrition among vulnerable households across the ten political wards of Uhunmwode Local Government Area.
To ensure credibility and public confidence in the process, Civil Society Organizations have been requested to nominate representatives to observe the exercise and provide independent oversight during the distribution.
The Council reassured residents that adequate arrangements have been put in place to guarantee a smooth, orderly, and transparent distribution process, while beneficiaries have been carefully identified through community-based structures to ensure that support reaches those most in need.
The ISIWINA Harvest of Hope Food Initiative is another demonstration of the people-oriented leadership of Hon. Austin Imafidon, whose administration continues to prioritize social welfare, grassroots development, and and economic empowerment across Uhunmwode Local Government Area.
