Decisions about persons with disability are still being made in rooms without a single person with a disability present.
Policies are drafted. Budgets are approved. Programs are designed. And too often, the people those decisions affect most are told the outcome instead of being part of the discussion.
That is not inclusion. That is an oversight, and it is one Edo State can no longer afford to normalize.
NAB Edo State Chapter is calling for exactly that: a seat at the table. Not as guests. Not as a formality. As voices with lived expertise that no policy paper can replace.
Leadership means insisting on the room, not waiting for an invitation. We are not asking to be considered. We are asking to be included in the conversation before the decision is made.

Another milestone for the NAB Edo State family.

Abraham Agaham, a final year student in the Special Education Department at the University of Benin, has officially signed out, closing a chapter of discipline, focus, and academic achievement.

To mark the occasion, Chairman Mr. Lucky Imafidon sent Youth Leader Osahon Ogieva alongside P.R.O. Mr. Uyiosa Efionayi to visit Abraham during his Sign Out, standing with him as a chapter, not just in words but in presence.

This is what NAB Edo State stands for. We celebrate our own. We show up for our own. And we will keep proving that competence and achievement have no limitations.

Congratulations, Abraham. Your chapter is proud of you.

"Qualified. Ready. Where's the Five Percent?"

Visually impaired professionals across Edo State are not asking to be excused from the standard. They are asking for the tool that lets them meet it.

Screen readers, braille displays, and assistive software close the gap between talent and output, not between talent and effort. The work gets done. The standard gets met. The only thing missing is the opportunity to prove it.

Nigeria's disability law requires public institutions to reserve at least five percent of employment opportunities for persons living with disabilities. It is not a suggestion. It is a mandate.

So the question for every employer and institution in Edo State is simple: are you meeting that number?

"Know the Law. Use the Law."

Rights are not requested. They are already law.

Nigeria's Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act protects every visually impaired citizen from discrimination in employment, education, and access to public spaces. Edo State has gone further, with its own disability rights law and a state Commission for Persons with Disabilities working to bring those protections home, to every local government area.

But a law only works when people know it exists and know how to use it.

Leadership means understanding what you're entitled to and standing on it with confidence. It means walking into a room, an office, or an interview knowing the ground beneath you is protected by law, not by pity.

NAB Edo State Chapter is committed to making sure our members know their rights and know how to exercise them. Knowledge of the law is not optional. It is strategy.

"The Tools Exist. The Talent Is Ready."

Blindness is not a barrier to skill. It is a barrier to access, and access is a decision, not a limitation.

Across Edo State, visually impaired professionals are trained and ready: screen readers like JAWS and NVDA turning code into opportunity, braille displays putting documents at their fingertips, voice-to-text tools matching the pace of any sighted colleague.

The competence has never been in question. Access has.

To employers, institutions, and agencies across Edo State: inclusive hiring is not charity. It is a strategic decision to bring in talent that has already proven itself capable, disciplined, and ready to contribute from day one.

The tools exist. The training exists. What's missing is the will to open the door.
