Day One Highlights--The Ogun State Validation and Inauguration of Multi-Stakeholder Platform (MSP) and Biodiversity Needs Assessment held today 19th February 2026, under the FAO Nigeria and funded Global Environment Facility (GEF-7) Biodiversity Project.

Convened by the Nigeria National Park Service (NPS), the event brought together key stakeholders, government agencies, NGOs, private sector actors, academia, and local communities to strengthen collaboration for biodiversity conservation and sustainable land use in Omo forest reserve.

The Multi-Stakeholder Platform is designed to address complex environmental challenges including habitat degradation, deforestation, and land-use conflicts through coordinated action and shared ownership.

By institutionalizing inclusive participation, transparency, and accountability, the initiative is expected to enhance ecological resilience, strengthen local livelihoods, and support Nigeria’s biodiversity conservation commitments.

This marks a critical step toward protecting Nigeria’s lowland forest mosaic landscape through inclusive governance, shared responsibility, and evidence-based action.

DAY TWO HIGHLIGHTS - Validation & Inauguration of the Multi-Stakeholder Platform

Day Two of the Validation and Inauguration of the Multi-Stakeholder Platform under the FAO/GEF7 Biodiversity Conservation Project focused on strengthening the technical foundation for effective project implementation.

A key highlight of the day was the training of enumerators for the upcoming field survey. The session equipped participants with practical knowledge on data collection tool, survey methodology, ethical considerations, and accurate field reporting with GPS.

This capacity-building effort ensures that baseline data gathered across project landscapes will be reliable, inclusive, and aligned with global best practices in biodiversity conservation.

The team also paid a strategic visit to the Chairman Hon Valentine Owamagbe Asuen DVD, Edo State Government of Nigeria Forestry Commission, where discussions were held to reinforce institutional collaboration and community-level ownership of the project.

The meeting emphasized coordinated action toward sustainable forest management, biodiversity conservation, and improved livelihoods within the Okomu and Giligili forest reserve.

The FAO Nigeria, Nigeria National Park Service and Global Environment Facility Biodiversity Project continues to promote participatory governance, evidence-based planning, and strong partnerships among stakeholders at national and sub-national levels.

Together, we are building a more sustainable future for Nigeria’s forest ecosystems.
