ANAMBRA STATE SCOUT COUNCIL PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO THE HONOURABLE COMMISSIONER FOR YOUTH AND SPORTS

As part of its efforts to strengthen collaboration with critical stakeholders in youth development, the leadership of the Anambra State Scout Council yesterday paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Patrick Agha Mba, at his office in Awka.

The delegation was led by the State Scout Commissioner, Comr. Adolphus Mary Chukwudi Umeojiako, and included the National Board Member, Hon. Prince Levi Ezeudogu, alongside other executive members of the Scout Council.

During the visit, the State Scout Commissioner congratulated Hon. Agha Mba on his well-deserved reappointment as Commissioner for Youth and Sports, describing it as a testament to the confidence reposed in his leadership and the remarkable achievements recorded during his first tenure. He prayed that the Commissioner would continue his good work and keep impacting the lives of young people across Anambra State.

Speaking further, Comr. Umeojiako mentioned the strategic priorities of the Scout Movement and requested greater government partnership. He reiterated that the Scout Movement remains committed to youth development through leadership training, character building, and community service. By providing a non-formal educational platform, Scouting equips young people with the skills and values needed to become responsible citizens and agents of positive change.

To sustain this mission, the Association continues to train and retrain adult volunteers, with the forthcoming Wood Badge Course, scheduled to hold from 17th to 23rd August 2026, serving as a key leadership development programme.

He therefore appealed for greater government partnership and support in youth empowerment, leadership training, and community service initiatives to enable Scouting to make an even greater impact across the state.

The State Scout Commissioner further highlighted the need for increased collaboration and support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, as well as the Ministry of Education, particularly in sustaining and expanding the Scouting in Schools Initiative, which has continued to instill discipline, leadership, and responsibility in the lives of young people in secondary schools.

In his remarks, the National Board Member, Hon. Prince Levi Ezeudogu, commended the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, for his administration’s unwavering commitment to youth empowerment, particularly through the One Youth, Two Skills initiative. He described the programme as transformational and appealed to the State Government to consider extending its benefits to members of the Scout Movement, given the organisation’s longstanding record of developing young people into responsible leaders and active citizens.

Responding, the Honourable Commissioner thanked the leadership of the Anambra State Scout Council for the visit and expressed appreciation for their continuous contributions to youth development in the state. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s readiness to partner with organisations whose activities align with the government’s vision of empowering young people and assured the delegation of his support in advancing initiatives that promote the growth and development of the younger generation.

The visit ended on a positive note as the Honourable Commissioner, on behalf of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, assured the Anambra State Scout Council of increased collaboration and support in empowering young people across the state.

ANAMBRA STATE SCOUT COUNCIL PAYS CONDOLENCE VISIT TO FORMER STATE SCOUT COMMISSIONER, CHIEF PATRICK NWEKE

The Anambra State Scout Commissioner, Comr. Adolphus-Mary Chukwudi Umeojiako, alongside some members of his executive and Hon. Prince Levi Ezeudogu, National Board Member, paid a condolence visit to the residence of former State Scout Commissioner, Chief Patrick Nweke, following the passing of his beloved wife, Late Madam Pauline Nweke, whose funeral was held on Friday, 19th June, 2026.

Speaking during the visit, the State Scout Commissioner explained that the purpose of the visit was to make up for his absence at the burial ceremony, as he was unavoidably away on an important national assignment in Abuja. He further noted that this was the Council’s second visit to Chief Patrick Nweke since the passing of the late Madam Pauline Nweke, who died at the age of 86.

He encouraged Chief Patrick to remain strong, reminding him that death is an inevitable part of life. He added that the late Madam Pauline Nweke lived a fulfilled life and that, as believers, they trust in the perfect will of God, who alone gives and takes life according to His purpose.

In his remarks, Hon. Prince Levi Ezeudogu also urged Chief Patrick to remain steadfast and positive despite the painful loss. He commended his remarkable strength, and agility, describing them as inspiring, especially considering his advanced age.

Responding, Chief Patrick Nweke expressed profound appreciation to the State Scout Commissioner and his entourage for the visit, describing it as a true demonstration of the love, unity, and brotherhood that Scouting represents. He emotionally recalled that his late wife was God’s greatest gift to him. He revealed that they got married during the Nigerian Civil War and, throughout their marriage, they never experienced any misunderstanding that required the intervention of a third party or neighbors to settle. He also disclosed that, despite his healthy appearance and physical strength, he is now 92 years old.

The visit concluded on a joyful note as Chief Patrick entertained his guests with stories and reflections from his life’s journey, filling the room with laughter and leaving everyone inspired by his wisdom, warmth, and unwavering spirit.

ANAMBRA STATE SCOUT COUNCIL HOLDS EXECUTIVE MEETING AT OUR LADY OF FATIMA CATHOLIC CHURCH, IGBOUKWU

Yesterday, the Anambra State Scout Council, ably led by the State Scout Commissioner, Comr. Adolphus Chukwudi Umeojiako, held its Executive Meeting at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Igbokwu.

In his opening remarks, Comr. Umeojiako appreciated the Parish Priest, Our Lady of Fatima, Igboukwu, Very Rev. Charles Umeoji, the Episcopal Vicar, Ekwulobia Diocese & Dean, Igboukwu Denary as well as the Divisional Commissioner of Aguata Division, for successfully organizing the meeting. He further stated that Executive Meetings would continue to rotate across the various divisions in the state, adding that the next meeting is likely to be hosted by Nnewi Division.

The State Executives unanimously commended the President of the Council, His Excellency Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, and the Deputy President, Rev. Fr. Jeremiah Nwosu, for their exemplary leadership, unwavering support, and guidance, which have continued to strengthen and sustain the Anambra State Scout Council.

The State Scout Commissioner also announced that the warrant of the Deputy President, Rev. Fr. Jeremiah Nwosu, has expired and that he has indicated his desire not to continue in office, citing declining strength and his inability to actively participate in most Scout activities and programmes due to old age.

Following this announcement, the State Executives unanimously recommended Barr. Ogbueri Chiedozie as the new Deputy President, subject to the approval of the State Scout Council, headed by the State President, His Excellency Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, and subsequent appointment by the Chief Commissioner, Dr. Zack Ekanola.

The State Scout Commissioner also unveiled a new membership registration and data recapture initiative, which combines both digital and manual registration processes to update the records of all members across the state. He directed all Commissioners and Scout leaders to ensure maximum participation in the exercise to facilitate the development of a comprehensive and up-to-date state membership database.

As part of efforts to strengthen institutional relationships, Comr. Umeojiako directed all Divisional and District Commissioners to submit the names of the Mayors and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) within their respective Local Government Areas and to schedule courtesy visits to them.

Other highlights of the meeting included:

* A briefing on the forthcoming Wood Badge Training Course in the state.
* An announcement of the National Youth Camp and International Youth Day Celebration scheduled to hold in Benin City, Edo State.
* A briefing on the Council’s welfare activities and financial expenditures.

In his closing remarks, the State Scout Commissioner encouraged all newly appointed officers to discharge their responsibilities diligently and in accordance with the standards and principles of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM).

The meeting was well attended by Commissioners, Scout leaders, and members from across the state.

THE ANAMBRA STATE SCOUT COUNCIL WORSHIPS AT OUR LADY OF FATIMA CATHOLIC CHURCH, IGBOUKWU

The Anambra State Scout Council, yesterday, worshipped with the faithful at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Igbokwu.

The visit was in line with the vision of the State Scout Commissioner to sustain grassroots Scouting and revive the existing structures of the Scout Movement across Anambra State.

Speaking during the visit, the Assistant State Scout Commissioner for Administration and Government Relations, Comr. Augustine Nwosu, emphasized the importance of the Scout Movement in developing leadership among the younger generation. He noted that Scouting is a global youth movement with a presence in 176 countries and territories through 176 recognized National Scout Organizations (NSOs), demonstrating its global reach, relevance, and widespread acceptance.

Comr. Augustine further stated that the aim of the Scout Movement is to develop responsible citizens by building the character of young people, equipping them with practical life skills, and inspiring them to become active and useful members of their communities.

Also speaking, the National Headquarters Commissioner for Gender Balance, Mrs. Rita Okeke, urged parents and guardians to encourage their children and wards to join the Scout Movement. She assured them that the organization plays a vital role in character development. Sharing her personal experience, she recounted how joining Scouting at a young age transformed her life and concluded by emphasizing that the Scout Movement is open to both boys and girls.

The presence of the State Scout Council was warmly received by the parishioners, many of whom registered their children in the Scout Movement. The visit culminated in a successful membership recruitment exercise, with many young people expressing interest in becoming Scouts.

ANAMBRA HEAD OF CIVIL SERVICE CRACKS DOWN ON MIDDLEMEN IN RETIREMENT BENEFITS PROCESSING

The Anambra State Head of Civil Service, Ngozi Anuli Iwouno, Esq., mni, has intensified efforts to safeguard the integrity of retirement benefits processing by warning retiring officers against patronizing middlemen and unauthorized agents promising to fast-track their entitlements.

In a circular issued from the Office of the Head of Service on July 1, 2026, Iwouno expressed concern over increasing reports of fraudulent individuals exploiting intending retirees while also highlighting delays caused by incomplete retirement documentation.

She directed all officers due for retirement to ensure their files contain all required documents, including bank statements covering the last three months before retirement and functional telephone numbers for easy communication.

The Head of Civil Service advised intending retirees to carefully verify that all necessary documents have been submitted before forwarding their retirement files to the appropriate authorities for processing.

Iwouno stressed that retirement benefits processing is an official government responsibility and does not require payment of money, gratification or inducement to any staff, agent or intermediary.

She urged retirees and pensioners to report any pension official or middleman demanding money to facilitate retirement benefits through the designated government hotline, 09070115759.

The circular further directed officers whose retirement files remain unattended in the Pension Department for more than five working days to report directly to the Office of the Head of Civil Service with details of their submission.

She also charged Accounting Officers, Directors of Administration, Heads of Departments and Pension Desk Officers to ensure the circular is widely circulated and strictly implemented across Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

Iwouno reaffirmed the Anambra State Government's commitment to a transparent, prompt and efficient retirement benefits system, assuring retiring officers of continued reforms to enhance service delivery.
