The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, convened the Ozo title holders and key stakeholders at the Light House to confront the pressing crisis engulfing Awka town—chiefly the dispute over the Awka traditional stool and the Imoka Festival.
In a landmark address, he stated unequivocally that HRM Obi Dr. Gibson Nwabueze Nwosu was never dethroned under the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Law and the Awka Kingship Law, Rules and Regulations. He stressed that peace is non-negotiable and urged all parties to stand down.
He then drew a clear line: anyone who attempts to parade themselves as the King of Awka Town other than His Royal Majesty Obi Gibson Nwosu will be treated as an impostor and prosecuted accordingly.
To underscore the government’s commitment to the throne, he announced approval for an ultra-modern civic centre that will house the palace of the Awka King.
On the rescheduling of the Imoka Festival, he explained that the decision was made solely in the overriding interest of public safety and security. He challenged the Ozo title holders directly: if they insist on holding the festival on their preferred date, they must submit, in writing, the names of those who will be held responsible should any breach of peace occur.
The Ozo title holders received the directive and pledged to consult and revert to the Governor.
