COMMEMORATING WORLD NATURE CONSERVATION DAY 2026
Our Commitment to a Clean, Green, and Sustainable Anambra
On July 28, 2026, the Department of Forestry and Wildlife, Anambra State Ministry of Environment, joins the global community to mark World Nature Conservation Day.
This day reminds us of our shared duty to protect, preserve, and sustainably manage our natural environment and rich biodiversity. In line with our vision for a *Clean, Green, and Sustainable Anambra*, we are driving proactive environmental stewardship through aggressive afforestation and public sensitization.
*KEY HIGHLIGHTS & FIELD ACTIVITIES*
*1. School Tree-Planting & Biodiversity Outreach*
In partnership with the Nnenyamaka Foundation, we launched awareness and tree-planting drives across secondary schools in key zones:
- *Awka Zone*: Igwebuike Grammar School, St. John of God Secondary School, Capital City Secondary School
- *Nnewi Zone*: Nnewi High School, Okongwu Grammar School, Anglican Girls' Secondary School
The goal: Instill sustainable environmental values in the next generation through direct engagement.
*2. Environmental Sensitization & Advocacy*
We engaged local operators, community stakeholders, and youth on forest management, biodiversity conservation, and the dangers of illegal logging.
3. Conservation Strategy Reinforcement*
Expanding urban green cover and strengthening protective frameworks around state forest reserves to combat erosion and climate vulnerabilities.
A CALL TO ACTION
Conservation is not the sole duty of government. It is a shared civic responsibility. Every tree planted today serves as a natural buffer against soil erosion, purifies the air we breathe, and safeguards ecosystems for generations to come.
*"Plant a Tree Today, Preserve Nature for Tomorrow. Plant a Tree, Preserve Life."
Let us work together to keep our environment healthy, resilient, and thriving.
Signed,
Department of Forestry and Wildlife
