Yesterday, the Anambra State Scout Council, ably led by the State Scout Commissioner, Comr. Adolphus Chukwudi Umeojiako, held its Executive Meeting at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Igbokwu.

In his opening remarks, Comr. Chukwudi Umeojiako appreciated the Parish Priest, Our Lady of Fatima, Igboukwu, Very Rev. The State Executives unanimously commended the President of the Council, His Excellency Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, and the Deputy President, Rev. Fr. Jeremiah Nwosu, for their exemplary leadership, unwavering support, and guidance, which have continued to strengthen and sustain the Anambra State Scout Council.

The State Scout Commissioner also announced that the warrant of the Deputy President, Rev. Fr. Jeremiah Nwosu, has expired and that he has indicated his desire not to continue in office, citing declining strength and his inability to actively participate in most Scout activities and programmes due to old age.

Following this announcement, the State Executives unanimously recommended Barr. Ogbueri Chiedozie as the new Deputy President, subject to the approval of the State Scout Council, headed by the State President, His Excellency Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, and subsequent appointment by the Chief Commissioner, Dr. Zack Ekanola.

The State Scout Commissioner also unveiled a new membership registration and data recapture initiative, which combines both digital and manual registration processes to update the records of all members across the state. He directed all Commissioners and Scout leaders to ensure maximum participation in the exercise to facilitate the development of a comprehensive and up-to-date state membership database.

As part of efforts to strengthen institutional relationships, Comr. Umeojiako directed all Divisional and District Commissioners to submit the names of the Mayors and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) within their respective Local Government Areas and to schedule courtesy visits to them.

Other highlights of the meeting included:

I sincerely appreciate all participants and delegates who took part in yesterday’s National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) State Unity Congress, especially the Sea Scouts, despite the short notice and other logistical challenges.

We did not just participate in the congress; we represented the values and promises upon which the foundation of the Scout Movement is built.

My deepest appreciation goes to our youth-friendly State Scout Commissioner (SSC), Comr. Adolphus-Mary Chukwudi Umeojiako (WB, MoP) whose permission and support made our participation possible.

The Youth Department has once again demonstrated its readiness and willingness to pilot the affairs of young people within the Scout Movement by fostering cooperation and participation of our youths in youth programs.

We look forward to increased youth participation and stronger collaboration with the NYCN at the state level, local government level and ward level.

Earlier today, the State Scout Commissioner, Comrade Adolphus-Mary Chukwudi Umeojiako, alongside the Training Commissioner, Kim Augustine Nwakalor, and some other members of the State Executive Council, paid an official visit to 003 Base Seahorse Ship, located at 302 Artillery, Army Barracks, Onitsha.

The visit which aligns with the present administration's broader vision to build a united, purposeful, and progressive State Council — one anchored on strengthening existing Scout groups and raising responsible citizens through quality Scouting activities.

Taking the form of an interactive session, the visit offered young Scouts a rare and valuable opportunity to engage directly with the State Scout Commissioner and members of his executive cabinet. The atmosphere was open and encouraging, fostering genuine dialogue, questions, and an exchange of ideas geared toward advancing the Scout Movement across the state.

In his address, the State Scout Commissioner reaffirmed his commitment to supporting local Scout groups and existing structures, pledging to provide the guidance, encouragement, and institutional backing necessary for their continued growth and sustainability. He further stressed his commitment to fairness and inclusiveness which define his administration, making it clear that his role as the State Scout Commissioner extends equally to all sections: Land Scouts, Air Scouts, and Sea Scouts and that every section of the movement will receive the same attention and opportunities.

As a demonstration of this commitment, Comrade Umeojiako highlighted the recent appointment of Mr. Chidiebere Nwankwo as the spokesperson for Healthallies Initiative Project in Nigeria by the Chief Commissioner, The Scout Association of Nigeria, Dr Zack Ekanola, noting that the appointment came through his personal recommendation at the national level.

On matters of administration, the State Scout Commissioner announced the suspension of all Ship Units in the state, with the exception of 003 Base Seahorse Ship, which remains operational within the barracks, pending verification and approval from his office. He also formally announced the appointment of Kim Chidiebere Nwankwo as the new Headquarters Commissioner for the Sea Scouts.

The meeting was indeed historic, being one of the first of its kind to provide young Scouts with the opportunity to interact personally with the State Scout Commissioner and his executive team.

The event recorded an impressive turnout, with a good number of young Scouts in attendance, demonstrating their enthusiasm and commitment to the ideals of Scouting.

The visit undoubtedly marks another step in the administration's drive to foster unity, inclusiveness, and purposeful leadership within the Scout Movement in the state.

…for a progressive Anambra State Scout Council.
