ANAMBRA STATE SCOUT COUNCIL CELEBRATES WORLD SCOUT FOUNDER’S DAY 2026
In a colourful display of glamour and splendour, the Anambra State Scout Council, under the distinguished leadership of the State President, Dr. OnyekaChukwu Ibezim, and the State Scout Commissioner/CEO, Comrade Chukwudi Umeojiako, commemorated the natal day of the Founder of Scouting, Lieutenant General Robert Baden-Powell. The 2026 celebration, themed “Our Friendship,” reflected the enduring bond of brotherhood, unity, and service that defines the global Scout Movement.
Lieutenant General Robert Baden-Powell was a decorated British Army officer whose experiences in military reconnaissance and youth training inspired a revolutionary vision for young people. In 1907, he organized an experimental camp for boys on Brownsea Island in England, where he tested his ideas on character development, self-reliance, teamwork, and outdoor skills. The overwhelming success of that camp led to the publication of Scouting for Boys in 1908, a book that ignited a worldwide movement. Through his philosophy of “learning by doing,” Baden-Powell established Scouting as a platform for building discipline, leadership, patriotism, and global friendship among young people. Today, his legacy lives on in millions of Scouts across the world who continue to uphold the ideals of duty to God, country, and humanity.
The epoch-making event attracted dignitaries from across the state, including the National Board Member, Hon. Prince Levi Ezeudogu LT. MoP; the Honourable Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Patrick Agha Mba; the Director of Youths, Comrade Martin Ezeilo; and the Chairman of NYCN, Anambra State Chapter, Amb. Surv Emeka Obi, ably represented by Comrade Onyekachi Michael (Coordinator, NYCN Ogbaru LGA), among many other distinguished personalities.
Centered on the exemplary leadership style of the great Founder of the Scout Movement, the celebration witnessed young scouts marching through the streets of Ogbaru to create awareness about the values of Scouting. The Cub Scouts and other sections thrilled the audience with colourful parades and coordinated displays, showcasing the rich heritage, discipline, and unity of the Scout brotherhood.
In his remarks, the Honourable Commissioner for Youth Development extolled the youth-friendly Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR, for providing an enabling environment for youth organizations to thrive. He highlighted various youth-centered initiatives implemented under the Soludo-led administration and commended the State Scout Council, ably led by Comrade Adolphus Umeojiako, for its unwavering commitment to nurturing the next generation of responsible leaders through the Scout platform. He further assured the Council of the government’s readiness to collaborate with and support credible youth-focused organizations such as the Scout Movement.
In his response, the State Scout Commissioner expressed profound appreciation to the Honourable Commissioner for honouring the invitation despite his busy schedule. He praised him for his consistent fatherly support toward youth development in Anambra State, noting that his track record from his tenure as Mayor of Onitsha North to his current position demonstrates genuine passion for empowering young people.
Highlights of the celebration included the investiture of the Honourable Commissioner for Youth Development into the Brotherhood of Scouts, presentation of awards and gifts to distinguished Scouts, a health talk, and other engaging activities that reinforced the spirit of friendship and service.
The event witnessed an impressive turnout of Scouts from across the state, reaffirming the strength, unity, and vibrancy of the Scout Movement in Anambra State.
