FIDA (Nig.) ASABA BRANCH COMMEMORATES WORLD DAY AGAINST TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS 2026

On 31st July 2026, FIDA (Nig.) Asaba Branch joined forces with key stakeholders to commemorate the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons 2026.

The event brought together the Delta State Taskforce, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Ministry of Women Affairs, NBA Asaba Branch, The Delta Legal Hub, international organisations, JDPC, NCWS, FIDA Paralegals, MDAs, NRC, FRSC, and other partners united in the fight against human trafficking.

The day began quite early, as stakeholders came together to raise awareness, strengthen collaboration, and reaffirm our collective commitment to preventing trafficking in persons, protecting victims, and ensuring access to justice.

We sincerely appreciate all FIDANs who showed up and participated actively. Your presence, dedication, and continued support remain vital to FIDA’s mission of promoting and protecting the rights of women, children, and vulnerable persons.

Together, we continue to say NO to human trafficking and YES to dignity, justice, protection, and freedom for all.

REPORT ON FIDA (NIG.) ASABA BRANCH STEP-DOWN LEADERSHIP TRAINING

1. Introduction

FIDA (Nig.) Asaba Branch conducted a step-down leadership training during its General Meeting on Thursday, 21st May 2026. The session was organized to share knowledge and lessons from the FIDA Nigeria South Zonal Leadership Training hosted by the Branch in March 2026.

FIDA (Nig.) Asaba Branch was honoured to participate in the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), Delta State Chapter's 2026 International Women's Day Celebration and the launch of its permanent site.

Representing FIDA Asaba, our Chairperson, Ifeoma Iloba Esq., delivered a keynote lecture on the theme: "Give to Gain: Building Stronger Communities Through Women's Service."

The presentation highlighted the importance of women's contributions through advocacy, mentorship, legal aid, education, and community service, while addressing pressing issues such as gender-based violence, cyberbullying, widowhood rights violations, and access to justice.

FIDA emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between NCWS, legal practitioners, government agencies, and community stakeholders to protect and empower women and girls across Delta State.

We commend NCWS Delta State for a successful event and reaffirm our commitment to advancing the rights of women and children through advocacy, legal support, and strategic partnerships.

*REPORT ON FIDA (NIG.) ASABA BRANCH ENGAGEMENT WITH DELTA STATE LAW STUDENTS DURING DELSAN AGC 2026*

The International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA (Nig.) Asaba Branch, honored an invitation by the Delta State Law Students Association of Nigeria, DELSAN, to participate in their Annual General Conference themed :
“Stand Out, Stand Tall”. Two events were had.

FIDA Asaba engaged with law students across 2 key events aimed at building capacity, mentorship, and professional excellence.

*Event 1: Moot & Mock Competition*
- *Date/Time*: Friday, 10:00am
- *Venue*: High Court Complex, Asaba
- *FIDA Asaba Role*: The Chairperson delivered a goodwill message centered on FIDA Nigeria’s mentorship program. She advised female students to key into the FIDA Associate Programme as a pathway to practical legal experience and advocacy for women and children’s rights. She also appealed to male students to support the programme to ensure its success, emphasizing that gender justice requires collective responsibility.

*Highlights of the Moot Court Activity*:
1. Moot court finals session with competitive oral advocacy by students
2. Presentation of awards and certificates to outstanding participants in the series
3. Presentation of corporate gifts by Compos Mentis
4. Attendance by the Deputy Chief Registrar of the High Court of Justice BMD and other special guests from the Justice Delivery Community

*Event 2: Legal Symposium*
- *Date/Time*: Saturday, 10:00am
- *Venue*: NBA House, Asaba
- *FIDA Asaba Role*: FIDA Asaba attended and actively participated in the symposium. The engagement provided an opportunity to interact with students on contemporary legal issues, professional ethics, and the role of young lawyers in societal transformation.

On Thursday, February 19, 2026, FIDA Asaba Branch held her monthly Branch meeting. In attendance were some members and EXCO of the Branch.

At the meeting, the Chairperson of the Branch, Ifeoma Iloba Esq presented the office equipment donated to the branch by the Delta State Ministry of Justice in its efforts to promote and protect the rights of women, children and other vulnerable persons in the state.

Delta Ministry of Justice Strengths Partnership on Women and Children’s Rights through FIDA (Nig.) Asaba Branch*

The Delta State Ministry of Justice has strengthened its collaboration with the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Nigeria, Asaba Branch, as part of ongoing efforts to promote and protect the rights of women, children, and other vulnerable persons in the state.

The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, made this known during the presentation of office equipment to FIDA (Nig.) Asaba Branch in Asaba. He was represented by the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Omamuzo Erebe, SAN.

The donation, which includes an all-in-one computer system, a printer, and Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units, fulfilled an earlier pledge by the Ministry to support FIDA’s operations and enhance its service delivery capacity.

According to the Attorney-General, the intervention aligns with the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening access to justice and reinforcing institutions involved in human rights protection across Delta State.

In her response, the Chairperson of FIDA Nigeria, Asaba Branch, Ifeoma Iloba, Esq., expressed appreciation to the Delta State Ministry of Justice for its continued support, noting that the provision of the office equipment will significantly improve efficiency, case management, and engagement at both national and international levels.

She added that the support will further strengthen FIDA’s capacity to effectively safeguard the rights of women and children in Delta State.

On the 5th-8th of february, FIDA (Nig.) Asaba Branch hosted the FIDA NIGERIA South-South Zonal Leadership Training 2026.

Theme: Leading with Purpose Building Ethical, Resilient And Influential Leaders For Sustainable Impact.

The zonal training opened with the CVP's opening address delivered by the Assistant National Secretary, Nnena O. Ignore, Esq.

Other branches in attendance were : FIDA Edo, FIDA Eket, FIDA Rivers, & FIDA Uyo.

The training included activities such as Fitness morning, group presentations and facilitating.

The training came to a close with the Chairperson of FIDA Asaba, Ifeoma Iloba Esq. giving her vote of thanks to all attendees.

It was an impactful gathering & it was our pleasure hosting the training.
