WELCOME TO AUGUST! 🔥

The 8th month of the year isn't here to be ordinary.

This month, we refuse to settle for average. We choose growth over excuses, action over procrastination, and results over empty promises.

No waiting. No giving up. No playing small.

Happy New Month! 🥳🎉

This is YOUR month.

Own it. Build it. Work for it.

Some stories are spoken.
Some are sung.
Some are poured into poems that linger long after the applause.
This is your invitation to witness voices finding their rhythm and stories finding their audience.

Come laugh, reflect, cheer, and experience creativity without limits.

The mic is open. The moment is yours. 🎤✨

Poetry often begins where comparison meets imagination.

A simile is one of the simplest tools in a poet's arsenal, yet one of the most powerful. It helps language stretch beyond what is said and reach for what is felt.

Today's poetry tip explores the art of making meaningful comparisons.

Swipe through. Learn. Write. Grow.

"Men don't cry."

"Be strong."

"Man up."

For generations, men have been taught to carry pain in silence, wear strength like armour, and hide the emotions that make them human.

But what happens when the weight becomes too much to bear?

In this powerful spoken word performance, Maryam Amodu Ryam_Verse challenges society's expectations of masculinity and opens up a necessary conversation about men's mental health, vulnerability, healing, and what it truly means to be a man.

Because strength is not the absence of emotion.

One of the quickest ways to strengthen your poetry is to stop naming emotions and start illustrating them.

Instead of telling readers what a speaker feels, give them images, actions, sounds, and details that allow them to arrive at the feeling themselves.

Readers may forget an emotion that was announced.
They rarely forget an emotion they experienced.

What is your favorite example of "showing" instead of "telling" in poetry? Let us know below. 👇

"Boys to men" you say, but what I hear is moving from the ability to lean on others to becoming someone others can lean on.
We grow up so fast, yet sometimes it seems all we learn is not to depend on anyone, holding tightly to the idea that "No one is coming to save you."
But is that really all growing up means?
Join us at Open Mic as we gather in a meaningful moment, exploring the journey from boys to men through poetry and shared voices🥰

A season wrapped in faith, gratitude, and sacrifice shared with family, friends, and unforgettable meals.
If words could be hidden under a bushel, it's safe to say that's where ours would be preserved, as we are beyond happy to wish you a joyful and blessed Eid El Kabir
