This year’s theme, Give to Gain, is an embodiment of what defines us as women. When you give a woman a seed she produces fruits, when you give a woman a spermatozoa she produces a child, when you give a woman a child she produces a community and when you empower one woman you empower the entire community.

the CEO of Women and Girls Emergency Centre, has over the years dedicated her career to supporting some of the most marginalized members of her community. From her early work with unaccompanied refugee minors to an unwavering commitment to the people she serves. Having encountered domestic violence firsthand, she was drawn to work supporting victim survivors.

She is also CoChair of the Keeping Women Out of Prison Coalition (KWOOP), an alliance working to end the cycles of incarceration in NSW. Her program in NSW is dedicated to pregnant women and mothers exiting prison, showing how safe housing can provide stability, disrupt cycles of homelessness, and create pathways for long term change.

We are thrilled to join the world today in celebrating the 2025 International Day of Women and Girls in Science with the theme: History significance and celebration.

In recognition of the significant role played by some of the thought filled and phenomenal women in science, today we go back memory lane to honour history and celebrate the late Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh’s courage and insight to have faced the deadly scourge of ebola virus while she ensured that patients who were exposed to the virus were treated timeously in order to curtail the outbreak. She unfortunately contracted the virus and passed while making efforts to treat other patients.

On the second part, we also celebrate and recognize the significant role of the Ilorin born Dr. Salamat Ahuoiza Aliu (b.1980). She is is the first indigenously trained female neurosurgeon in Nigeria and also the first female to be certified a neurosurgeon in West Africa.

Day in and day out, Florence Keya works directly with girls facing violence and trauma, making sure they are not alone. She offers her time, energy, and compassion not for recognition, but because it’s what’s right.

Florence is the founder and CEO of Maisha Girls Safe House (MGSH) in Kenya—a grassroots organization she established in 2016, grounded in her own experience as a survivor of sexual violence as a child. MGSH offers a continuum of care and protection to girls under 19 who have experienced sexual violence or are at risk of human trafficking.

We at .official Girls and Women Empowerment Network Int’l sees and celebrate Florence Keya for what she is doing to protect vulnerable girls in Kenya.

Sara Mardini was part of a group of volunteer activists with the ERCI organisation trying to help migrants and refugees reach the island of Le**os from Turkiye in 2018 by working as a translator. “I talk them through it,” Sara said. I tell them, ‘I know what you feel, because I’ve been through it. I lived it, and I survived’, and they feel better, because I am a refugee just like them.”

She was arrested and charged with espionage at the time and spent three months in prison in Greece. She was released on bail before the charges were dropped by the Greek court in January 2023.

We .official GWENI celebrate and salute Sara Mardini’s courage and resilience. Keep shining .
