Sometimes, the most valuable lessons happen outside the classroom.
As part of the Programme, our participants visited the Paradigm Initiative head office at Yaba for an engaging organisational visit that gave them the opportunity to see, ask questions and learn from people doing meaningful work.
One of the highlights was meeting Mr. Gbenga Sesan, Executive Director of Paradigm Initiative, and having an open conversation with him.
His advice to the young people was simple, but powerful:
“Don’t be in a hurry. Be in a hurry to learn.”
In a world where young people are constantly pressured to achieve quickly, his message encourages them to slow down, learn intentionally and understand that growth is a process.
He also shared an African proverb with them:
“A naked man cannot put his hand in his pocket.”
The conversation opened up room for the participants to ask questions, share their thoughts and receive honest perspectives from someone with years of experience.
Beyond the conversation, they got to see the organisation’s workspace, understand its structure, meet members of the team and get a glimpse into what working in a purpose-driven organisation actually looks like.
And that is exactly why organisational visits are an important part of .
We don't want young people to only learn about opportunities in a classroom. We want them to see where their learning can take them.
Sometimes, exposure changes what a young person believes is possible.
For our participants, this was not just a visit to an office. It was an opportunity to ask questions, gain perspective and see themselves in spaces they may one day occupy.
