Ayela is a 13 year old girl who started missing school every month because of her period. Without access to sanitary pads, she used old cloths and sometimes stayed with them for an entire day.

Soon, Ayela began experiencing itching, rashes, and infections from poor menstrual hygiene. She constantly worried about stains and bad odour in school. Her classmates laughed at her one day after noticing a stain on her uniform.

Ashamed and embarrassed, Ayela withdrew from her friends, avoided class activities, and her academic performance began to drop.

Poor menstrual hygiene affected Ayela’s health, confidence, education, and dignity. Sadly, many girls across underserved communities face the same reality every month.

In teenagers especially, irregular cycles are common in the first few years after menstruation begins.

During menstruation, the body needs gentle and proper care.

Clean the external area with clean water and mild soap. Avoid inserting anything inside the va**na as it cleans itself naturally.

Always wash hands before and after changing pads.

Simple hygiene habits prevent infections and protect dignity.
