Independence was the first structure. We are building the rest.

Today, we celebrate Nigeria, reflect on how far we have come, and look ahead to what we can build together.

The pressure to have your life figured out in your 20s can be very toxic.

At some point, it feels like there is an invisible timeline you are expected to follow.

Graduate by a certain age.
Get a good job.
Start making money.
Know your purpose.
Build a career.
Have your relationships figured out.

And when your life doesn't look like that timeline, you start wondering if you are behind.

But your 20s are also a season of discovery.

You are allowed to try something and realise it isn't for you.

You are allowed to change your mind.

You are allowed to start again.

You are allowed to not have all the answers yet.

Someone else's progress does not mean you are failing.

Instead of asking, "Am I where I should be?", perhaps we should ask:

"Am I learning, growing and building a life that is meaningful to me?"

There is no universal timeline for becoming.

Nine months ago, an idea began. Today, it has grown into a team, a community, meaningful programmes, and real stories of growth.

From our first Growth Beyond Grades cohort to our Youth Advisory Board, growing community, and the young people we’ve had the privilege to support, every milestone reminds us why this work matters.

We’re grateful to everyone who has been part of the journey so far: our team, partners, participants, volunteers, community members, and supporters.

This is only the beginning.

Here’s to building more, learning more, and creating even greater impact together.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: We are extending the GBG Cohort 2 application deadline to September 18.

From our initial announcement, today was meant to be the last day for applications.

However, we noticed something important.

While we have received a strong number of applications from Nigeria, applications from other African countries have been relatively low.

And this got us thinking.

GBG Cohort 2 is for young Africans across the continent, not just Nigerians.

We want to see more countries represented. We want to give young people from different African communities the opportunity to learn, grow, connect, and be part of this experience.

So, we’ve made a decision.

We are extending the GBG Cohort 2 application deadline to September 18,this friday.

If you’re a young African from any African country, this is your opportunity to apply.

We want to hear from you. We want to see your country represented.
