I Care Global Development Initiative (ICGDI) is an NGO in Nigeria.

Our primary focus is providing succor and support basic needs for the less privileged and the vulnerable in the society.

🌱 Do you remember Allanblackia, one of Nigeria’s endangered tropical tree species from our last post?

It plays a vital role in both nature and human livelihoods. Its seeds produce valuable oil used in cosmetics, soap production, and food products like margarine. The oil is also a potential source of income for local communities, while the tree itself can be harvested for timber.

Beyond its economic value, Allanblackia helps sustain forest ecosystems and support biodiversity. This is why protecting our forests goes beyond preserving trees; it also means protecting livelihoods, income opportunities, biodiversity, climate, and the future of our environment.

💚 When we care for nature, it continues to provide for us through resources, livelihoods, and ecosystem services, even as we depend on it for survival. Together, let’s protect our forests and preserve endangered species from extinction.

Happy International Day for Biological Diversity 2026

🌱🐘 Nigeria is home to remarkable wildlife species and many of which are now endangered or nearing extinction such as the Cross River gorilla, African elephant, Nigeria-Cameroon chimpanzee, white-throated monkey, Sclater’s guenon, pangolins, and African vultures.

🌍 Across Nigeria, biodiversity is increasingly threatened by habitat destruction, deforestation, bush burning, illegal hunting, and environmental degradation. When biodiversity is lost, ecosystems weaken, livelihoods are affected, and our future is at risk.

At I Care Global Development Initiative, we believe communities are key to protecting and restoring our shared biological wealth through tree planting, sustainable practices, and environmental awareness.

Let’s act together to protect nature by ending indiscriminate hunting, discouraging bush burning and deforestation, and promoting safe, sustainable land use practices.

From the food on our tables to the health of our ecosystems, bees quietly sustain life as we know it through pollination. Yet, they cannot do it alone.

At I Care Global Development Initiative, we believe in the power of partnership, where communities, farmers, and nature work hand in hand to protect these vital pollinators. 🌱💛

Through dialogue, we break barriers. Through inclusion, we create belonging. Through reconciliation, we restore hope. 🌱

🌱 that plants make up 80 percent of the food we eat and produce 98 percent of the oxygen we breathe?🌍

Sometimes, people forget that the health of our plants is directly connected to our own well-being. At I Care Global Development Initiative, we know plant health is vital which is why we work closely with farmers to promote safe, sustainable practices that protect plants without harming our soil, our environment, or our health 🌿.

This International Day of Plant Health, we join Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to call for better plant protection. From organic fertilizers to natural pest control, small changes can make a big difference and report any suspected plant pests or diseases to government authorities.

🌱 that agricultural "waste" can save trees?

Rice husk, maize cobs, groundnut shells, often seen as waste, can help reduce deforestation by replacing firewood with eco-friendly briquettes 🔥♻️. These biomass briquettes made from agricultural waste offer a cleaner, sustainable fuel that helps protect forests and the environment.

At I Care Global Development Initiative, we train farmers and community members to turn agricultural waste into wealth through briquette production, promoting sustainable energy and reducing deforestation.

🔥 Every briquette used means fewer trees cut down. Let’s build a greener future together.

🌍🦟 World Malaria Day 2026 🌍

Behind every malaria statistic is a child, a parent, and a family torn apart. According to World Health Organization (WHO), Nigeria bears the world’s heaviest malaria burden with over 68 million cases and 184,000 deaths from malaria in 2024 alone. These numbers are not just data, they are lives cut short and dreams interrupted.

Yet all hope is not lost: Malaria is preventable and curable. Today, I Care Global Development Initiative calls on all of us: to raise awareness, protect our communities, and turn commitment into action. Together, we can drive malaria to an end.
