Turning Waste into Wealth: Empowering Processors in Kogi & Niger States
On September 10th (Kogi State) and September 21st (Niger State), smallholder processors took part in a groundbreaking Waste-to-Wealth training — transforming agricultural residues into new streams of opportunity.
What was achieved?
Rice husks were converted into clean energy briquettes.
Cassava peels were transformed into nutritious livestock feed.
Participants gained hands-on skills to practice, produce, and scale immediately.
This initiative, under the Adaptation for Smallholder Agriculture Programme (ASAP) supported by IFAD, and implemented through the Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP) in collaboration with Phoenix Renewable Group and Net Zero Impact Group, went beyond theory. It empowered participants with practical, sustainable techniques that strengthen both livelihoods and climate resilience.
The result?
What was once considered “waste” is now seen as a resource — unlocking income generation, enterprise development, and stronger community resilience.
