A NEW CHAPTER. A CLEARER VOICE.

Today, we are turning a new page.

What was once VESDI is now evolving into Voices For Equity, a name that better reflects the heart of what we believe in and the kind of work we hope to build.

This transition is not simply about changing a name or a logo. It is about becoming more intentional about whose voices we create space for, how we listen, what we learn, and how we turn those voices into meaningful action.

At VOICES for Equity, we believe that equity begins when people are given the opportunity to speak, participate, learn, and be heard.

We are starting small, thoughtfully and genuinely. Our focus will be on creating practical spaces for young people and communities to connect, build knowledge, develop their voices, and participate in issues that affect their wellbeing and opportunities.

Our approach is simple:

LISTEN. EQUIP. AMPLIFY.

We are carrying forward the lessons, relationships, experiences, and support that shaped the VESDI journey while opening ourselves to a new chapter of growth and learning.

To everyone who has supported, contributed to, encouraged, or believed in the journey so far, thank you. This next chapter is only possible because of the foundation that came before it.

What if the biggest threat to our health isn't just disease, but the changing climate around us?

A mother walks through floodwaters just to reach a health facility.

A farmer watches months of hard work disappear because of unpredictable rains.

A young girl misses school because she doesn't have enough clean water to manage her menstrual hygiene safely.

These are not isolated stories. They reflect a growing reality: climate change is no longer just an environmental issue, it is a public health issue.

At Voices For Equity and Sustainable Development Initiative VESDI, we believe that healthier communities begin with informed communities. Climate change is reshaping our health, livelihoods, and future, making it more important than ever to raise awareness and inspire collective action.

From rising temperatures and flooding to food insecurity, water scarcity, and poor air quality, the effects of climate change are being felt across our communities. Women, children, young people, and other vulnerable populations often face the greatest burden.

This is the first post in our Climate and Health Series, a platform where we will share evidence-based information, spark meaningful conversations, and promote practical actions that support healthier people and a healthier planet.

Menstrual Hygiene is not a privilege, it is a right.

Every month, millions of girls miss school, hide in shame, suffer in silence, or are denied dignity simply because they menstruate.

For many, menstruation still comes with fear, stigma, discrimination, and harmful cultural practices. Some girls use unsafe materials because sanitary products are unaffordable. Some are isolated during their periods. Some lose confidence before they even discover their voice.

At Voices for Equity and Sustainable Development Initiative (VESDI), we believe no girl should bleed in shame.

This Menstrual Hygiene Day, we raise our voices for:
• Access to safe menstrual products
• Menstrual health education
• Clean water and sanitation
• Ending period stigma and discrimination
• Empowering girls to live with dignity and confidence

Menstruation is natural. Silence is harmful.

Together, let us build communities where every girl feels informed, safe, confident, and supported.

On this International Women’s Day, we reaffirm our commitment to advancing the rights, health, and leadership of women and girls. Through community engagement, health advocacy, and empowerment programs, we continue to promote equity, amplify voices, and drive meaningful change for women everywhere.

Knowledge Today Prevents Risk Tomorrow

For many families in Northern Nigeria, conversations about sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) are still treated as something that should not be spoken about openly. Mothers often feel shy or uncomfortable discussing topics like menstruation, relationships, family planning, or personal safety with their daughters. As a result, many young people grow up without clear guidance about their bodies, their health, and their rights.

When knowledge is replaced by silence, young people are left to learn from misinformation, peers, or social media. This can lead to confusion, unhealthy relationships, unintended pregnancies, unsafe decisions, and delayed healthcare seeking.

At Voices for Equity and Sustainable Development Initiative (VESDI), we believe that knowledge is power. Our new initiative, “SRHR Knowledge and Justice”, creates safe spaces for learning and dialogue, connecting youth, parents, and community leaders.

Through peer-to-peer education, community forums, and digital campaigns, we aim to break taboos, challenge misinformation, and empower informed decision-making.

Let’s normalize these conversations and build healthier, safer communities.

Launch of Voices for Equity and Sustainable Development Initiative (VESDI)

Voices for Equity and Sustainable Development Initiative (VESDI), a youth-led advocacy and community development organization, is proud to announce its official launch.

Founded on the principle that no one should be left behind, VESDI is committed to advancing equitable access to health, quality education, gender inclusion, climate resilience, and sustainable development in underserved communities.

Operating at the intersection of grassroots engagement and policy advocacy, VESDI seeks to amplify marginalized voices, strengthen local capacity, and promote inclusive systems that uphold dignity, opportunity, and justice.

“Equity must move from conversation to action,” said the Founder of VESDI.

“Our work is rooted in community realities and guided by a vision of inclusive, sustainable development where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.”

VESDI will focus on:
• Health equity and community based health advocacy.

• Inclusive and quality education.

• Gender equality and women’s leadership.

• Climate action and environmental sustainability.

• Youth empowerment and civic engagement.

Through strategic partnerships, advocacy campaigns, capacity building initiatives, and community driven interventions, VESDI aims to contribute meaningfully to national and global development priorities, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
