As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen stakeholder engagement and strategic partnerships, the Taraba State Coordinator of CONASAI, Amb. Dr. Tony Garba, today led members of the State Executive Council on a familiarisation and advocacy visit to the management of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Jalingo.

During the visit, the Coordinator highlighted CONASAI’s mission in combating substance abuse through prevention, rehabilitation support, education, awareness creation, and community sensitization. He emphasized the urgent need for collaboration with media organizations in addressing the growing menace of substance abuse affecting individuals, families, and communities across the country.

Dr. Tony Garba also disclosed CONASAI’s commitment to establishing anti-drug clubs in schools and organizations, while partnering with government agencies, religious leaders, community stakeholders, and educational institutions to curb substance abuse in society.

In response, the General Manager of NTA Jalingo, Hajia Nihaad Isa Umar, commended CONASAI for its proactive efforts and pledged the station’s full support toward the fight against substance abuse. As part of the partnership, NTA Jalingo approved a dedicated one-hour program airtime for CONASAI Taraba State to educate and sensitize the public on the dangers of illicit substance abuse.

The engagement concluded with an interactive session focused on prevention strategies, public awareness, and community involvement in tackling substance abuse.

OFFICIAL APPOINTMENT & LEADERSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT

The Board of Trustees of the Community Network Against Substance Abuse Initiative (CONASAI) is pleased to officially announce the appointment of key national and zonal leaders of the organization, with effect from 15th April, 2026.

These appointments, duly approved and signed by the Chairman, Board of Trustees, represent another strategic step toward strengthening the leadership structure, coordination, and nationwide impact of CONASAI in the fight against substance abuse and illicit drug abuse across Nigeria.

The newly appointed leaders are:

• Comrade Leo Ebute Ngbede – President (FCT, Abuja)
• HRH. Chief Alex Akata – Zonal Vice President (FCT, Abuja)
• Prince Akaninyene Gibson Umanah – State Coordinator, Akwa Ibom State
• Hon. Kathrine Ofruma Aniso – Zonal Vice President (Bayelsa State)
• Mrs. Grace M. Maduka – Zonal Vice President (Lagos State)
• Rev. Moses Yakubu Fisseh – Zonal Vice President (Adamawa State)

Each appointment comes with clearly defined duties, expectations, and responsibilities aimed at advancing CONASAI’s mission of advocacy, prevention, rehabilitation support, public sensitization, youth engagement, and strategic community action.

We appreciate the willingness and commitment of these distinguished individuals to take on this enormous responsibility in service to humanity and nation-building. We are confident that their leadership, experience, and dedication will contribute immensely to the continued growth and success of CONASAI nationwide.

The CONASAI Bauchi State Chapter, yesterday held a productive engagement with officials of the NDLEA Bauchi State Command to discuss strategic ways of supporting youths and women in the fight against drug abuse and illicit substance use across the state.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration, promoting public awareness, and advancing preventive education to protect communities from the dangers and devastating effects of substance abuse.

The Bauchi State Chapter remains committed to working closely with relevant stakeholders and authorities to build a safer, healthier, and drug-free society for all.

Today, the Taraba State Coordinator of CONASAI, Amb. Dr. Tony Garba, facilitated the State-Level Consultative Meeting organized by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Jalingo on the National Action Plan (NAP) 2024–2028 for the promotion and protection of Human Rights in Nigeria.

Serving as the State Rapporteur for the NHRC, Dr. Tony Garba also used the opportunity to speak on the devastating impact of substance abuse on individuals, families, and society, emphasizing that combating drug abuse is a collective responsibility.

The consultative meeting had in attendance representatives from the Army, Police, NIS, NSCDC, NDLEA, DSS, Taraba Marshals, government MDAs, CSOs, NGOs, religious bodies, and community leaders.

Strengthening Partnerships for a Drug-Free Society

‎The Taraba State Coordinator of CONASAI, Amb. Dr. A. Garba Dorofi, today led members of the State Executive Council on a strategic advocacy and familiarization visit to the Permanent Secretary of Taraba State Broadcasting Service (TSBS) and the Permanent Secretary, Civil Service Commission, Comrade David Nya.

‎During the visit, the Coordinator highlighted CONASAI’s ongoing efforts in combating substance abuse through sensitization, awareness creation, and public education, while emphasizing the urgent need for media collaboration to amplify these initiatives across the state.

‎He further outlined the devastating social consequences of substance abuse, including gender-based violence, domestic instability, school and workplace disruptions, economic losses, and leadership challenges, stressing the importance of collective action in addressing the crisis.

‎CONASAI also sought the support of TSBS in providing media coverage, dedicated airtime, and public engagement platforms to drive prevention and rehabilitation messaging, while informing the stakeholders of the ongoing nationwide recruitment of CONASAI Marshals (COMARSH).

‎In response, Comrade David Nya commended CONASAI for its proactive and impactful approach, describing substance abuse as a growing public menace. He pledged his full support for the organization’s activities and further expressed his willingness to serve as a de facto member of CONASAI in Taraba State.

‎This engagement marks another significant step in strengthening institutional partnerships and advancing CONASAI’s mission to build safer, healthier, and drug-free communities.
