The recurring xenophobic attacks targeting African nationals in South Africa are deeply disheartening, condemnable, and fundamentally unacceptable. Africa is one continent, bound by shared history, struggle, and destiny. No African should ever live in fear or face hostility in any part of our common homeland.
It is imperative that both the government and the people of South Africa reflect on the unwavering solidarity shown by other African nations during the darkest days of apartheid. When the apartheid regime threatened the very existence of South Africa, countries such as Nigeria, Ghana, Algeria, Kenya, Ethiopia, and many others stood resolutely with the South African people. They provided diplomatic support, financial resources, military training, and safe haven to freedom fighters, often at great cost to themselves. That sacrifice and brotherhood must never be forgotten.
The xenophobic violence we are witnessing today stands in direct contradiction to the pan-African ideals championed by visionary leaders like Nelson Mandela, Kwame Nkrumah, Thomas Sankara, Muammar Gaddafi, Patrice Lumumba, and countless others who dedicated their lives to African unity, dignity, and liberation. Mandela’s philosophy of Ubuntu — “I am because we are” — rejects the very notion of turning against fellow Africans.
We at Atum Humanitarian and Anti Corruption Initiative strongly and unequivocally condemn these shameful acts perpetrated against our brothers and sisters. We call on the Government of South Africa to act swiftly and decisively to halt these attacks, protect all African nationals within its borders, ensure justice for victims, and reaffirm its commitment to the principles of pan-Africanism and human dignity.
An injury to one African is an injury to all Africans.
One Africa ❤️❤️❤️
