On the 21st of January 2026, What began as a day filled with uncertainty and quiet hope turned into a moment of transformation and renewed dignity. As disability aids and financial support were distributed to beneficiaries, lives were visibly changed before our eyes.

Many arrived with little or no support, carrying the weight of challenges and limited opportunities. But by the end of the program, the atmosphere had shifted; smiles replaced worry, confidence replaced doubt, and hope was restored.

Through the provision of mobility aids and financial empowerment, OEI continues to break barriers and open doors for persons with disabilities, ensuring they are equipped not just to move, but to thrive. This is the power of inclusion, compassion, and collective responsibility.

A new chapter begins .

We were at the Vanguard Against Drug Abuse (VGADA) Specialist Rehabilitation Centre for the discharge and empowerment of beneficiaries from our institution-based drug rehabilitation programme.

Two individuals successfully completed an intensive three-month inpatient recovery journey. During the discharge, the Programme Coordinator, Mrs Mary Agamalafiya charged them to stay committed to sobriety, embrace this second chance, and confidently rebuild their lives with the economic support that would be provided by our NGO.

This initiative is structured to reach all 21 Local Government Areas in Kogi State, with two individuals selected from each LGA to benefit from comprehensive institutional rehabilitation followed by post-treatment economic empowerment support.

Recovery is not just about leaving addiction behind, it’s about creating opportunities, and building a sustainable future.

Note: The faces of the beneficiaries have been respectfully blurred to protect their privacy and honor their personal journeys.

Yesterday, a representative of the team of Her Excellency, the First Lady of Kogi State, Hajia Sefinat Ododo, visited the Vanguard Against Drug Abuse (VGADA) Specialist Rehabilitation Centre in Jabi for the discharge and economic empowerment of beneficiaries from the pilot batch of the institution-based drug rehabilitation programme.

Mr. S and Mrs. N successfully completed the three-month inpatient rehabilitation programme. Through her team, Her Excellency charged them to remain sober while taking advantage of the economic empowerment support being provided to help them rebuild their lives.

This intervention is designed to cover all the 21 LGAs of Kogi State, with two persons battling drug addiction selected from each LGA to benefit from institutional rehabilitation and post-treatment economic empowerment support.

In her words:
“I wish I had the powers to heal everyone suffering from addiction in Kogi State.”

Recovery is possible. Purpose is powerful.

We recently rehabilitated 20 individuals who were victims of drug abuse, helping them take bold steps toward rebuilding their lives. As part of their reintegration journey, each person was empowered in their existing trade or area of interest, because meaningful engagement is key to breaking the cycle of substance abuse.

From motorbikes to sewing machines, generators to professional tool kits, these resources were carefully provided to help them regain independence and build sustainable livelihoods.

For the purpose of protecting their privacy and honoring their personal journeys, their faces have been respectfully blurred. Their stories, however, remain powerful reminders that with the right support, transformation is always possible.

An idle hand may be the devil’s workshop, but empowered hands build futures, restore hope, and strengthen communities.
