Last week, we had the opportunity to pay a courtesy visit to the Wanep Nigeria team in Abuja on behalf of the Ominya Initiative

The meeting was a valuable opportunity to connect, share experiences, and explore areas of mutual interest around peacebuilding, conflict prevention, youth and women’s empowerment, and sustainable community development.

For us at Ominya Initiative, partnerships are not just about working together—they are about bringing together ideas, experiences, and networks to create more meaningful and sustainable impact in our communities.

We are grateful to the WANEP-NIGERIA team for the warm reception and engaging conversation.

We look forward to what this relationship can grow into. 🤝🏽

Ominya Initiative was pleased to be represented by our Programs Manager, Praise Oladeinde, at the National Policy Dialogue on Rights, Justice & Digital Safety, where the “Toxic Tech? Understanding and Addressing Online Violence Against Vulnerable Communities in Nigeria” research report was launched by TechHerNG

The dialogue brought together policymakers, civil society, researchers, and technology stakeholders to reflect on digital safety, accountability, and the protection of vulnerable communities in Nigeria.

We are reminded that meaningful change begins with informed and inclusive dialogue—but must ultimately translate into action, stronger policies, and safer digital spaces for all.

We appreciate TechHerNG for convening this important conversation and creating a platform for stakeholders to collectively advance digital rights and safety in Nigeria.

From the classroom to the community—this is the impact we envisioned. 🕊️

As part of the Peacebuilders Leadership Internship (PLI 1.0), our interns successfully implemented their Pass It On (PIO) Project, taking the knowledge and skills they gained over the past 12 weeks beyond the classroom and into the community.

Through their outreach at Karamajiji IDP Camp, they engaged young people in meaningful conversations on peace, dialogue, empathy, and non-violent conflict resolution, inspiring them to become agents of peace within their own communities.

We are proud of our interns for turning learning into action and demonstrating that peacebuilding is not just something we teach—it is something we live and practice.

This is the impact the Ominya Initiative Peacebuilders Leadership Internship was created to achieve: equipping young people to lead, inspire, and build peace where it matters most.

The Ominya Initiative had the pleasure of meeting with the Initiative for Peace and Dignity (IPD) in May to explore opportunities for collaboration and strategic partnership.

Our discussion focused on how both organizations can leverage our shared commitment to peacebuilding, youth empowerment, human rights, and community development to expand our reach and deepen our collective impact. We believe that meaningful partnerships are essential to creating sustainable change, and we are excited about the possibilities ahead.

We look forward to working together to design impactful initiatives, strengthen community engagement, and create more opportunities that benefit the people and communities we serve.

The Ominya Initiative was pleased to attend the launch of Synited Safe, a civic technology platform developed to strengthen community-based reporting, early warning, and stakeholder collaboration on security issues in Nigeria.

The launch, held at the Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, brought together stakeholders committed to leveraging technology for safer and more resilient communities.

As an organization working at the intersection of peacebuilding, youth engagement, and community resilience, we recognize the importance of innovative digital solutions in supporting early warning and conflict prevention. We commend the School of Politics, Policy, and Governance (SPPG) and the Synited Safe Project Team for this important initiative and look forward to opportunities for collaboration in advancing community safety across Nigeria.

Together, we can build safer communities through innovation, collaboration, and active citizen participation.

For 3 impactful days, the Ominya Initiative was proudly represented by its Executive Director, Amb Honest Salihu Gode , at the Civic Space Resource Hub (CSR-HUB) Nigeria Cohort IV, organized by the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) in Abuja.

The training provided valuable insights into civic space protection, advocacy, regulatory compliance, digital rights, nonprofit governance, data protection, and institutional accountability—critical areas for strengthening civil society action in Nigeria.

This experience reinforces Ominya Initiative’s commitment to building resilient systems, protecting civic freedoms, and advancing peacebuilding, human rights, and inclusive governance in underserved communities.

As we move forward, we remain dedicated to translating these learnings into stronger action, deeper impact, and sustainable change.

A few months ago, we launched the Peacebuilders Leadership Internship (PLI 1.0) with a vision to raise young Peace Champions equipped to lead positive change.

That vision has become reality. After 10 weeks of learning, growth, and mentorship, our interns will be carrying on their Pass It On (PIO) Project & will be set to graduate this month.

We’re grateful to every facilitator, partner, and participant who made this journey meaningful. This is only the beginning.
