“THE !GB0 IDENTITY C’R!S!S IN RIVERS STATE IS BEING USED AS A POLITICAL TOOL TO DIS!NTE’GRATE AND DISENFRANCHISE !GB0 PEOPLE” — ETCHE/ OMUMA COMMUNITIES SAY
In our upcoming video, we’ll find out if that is really what is happening?
Our last video triggered a wave of reactions—some supportive, some angry, and many raising even bigger questions about identity in Rivers State.
Now, we go deeper into the communities.
During our journey through Etche and Omuma communities, we encountered people who openly and proudly identify as !gb0, without hesitation or prejudice.
But social-media arguments have raised a bigger question:
Why is the question of !gb0 identity in parts of Rivers State so deeply contested?
Rather than argue from behind our phones, the reactions to our previous video have compelled us to visit more communities, speak directly with the people and investigate the story behind this identity debate.
We want to ask the difficult questions:
WHERE did this identity question begin?
WHAT exactly is being contested?
WHY are some people embracing an !gb0 identity while others reject it?
WHEN did the divide become significant?
WHO are the people and forces shaping this narrative?
And WHAT factors may be driving the identity c’r!s!s?
This investigation is not about imposing an identity on anyone. It is about listening to different voices, examining history, language, culture and lived experiences, and allowing the people themselves to tell their stories.
The journey has only begun.
This time, we are going deeper into Rivers State.
