The Global South Peer Learning Workshop on Country Platforms for Climate Action and Just Energy Transition, organized by the Africa Policy Research Institute (APRI), was held in Abuja from April 29–30, 2025. The two-day event brought together experts and stakeholders to discuss how to strengthen inclusive and effective national strategies for energy transition.

Day 1 featured four panel discussions. The first focused on the rationale behind Joint Energy Transition Plans (JETPs), featuring insights from international experts. The second panel addressed the importance of adapting to change, emphasizing South-South collaboration in climate finance. The third explored private sector roles in country platforms, highlighting investment opportunities and responsibilities. The fourth panel discussed civil society engagement, underlining its importance in shaping inclusive transition policies.

Key takeaways included:

* Countries should adopt context-specific approaches rather than copying others.
* Strong institutions are needed to coordinate across all sectors.
* Accessible funding should support viable, bankable energy projects.
* Gender inclusion, youth engagement, and access to clean energy are vital for success.

Day 2 featured keynote speeches and breakout sessions for stakeholders, including government, civil society, and the private sector. Civil society actors emphasized that:

* Grassroots organizations must be included in policy development.
* Community needs assessments and collaboration with government are essential.
* Regular equity audits should be conducted.
* Youth must be educated on policy content and implications.

In conclusion, the workshop reinforced the importance of inclusive, tailored approaches to climate action and just energy transition in the Global South.
