Addressing resource-based competition over land and water is essential for stabilizing regional agropastoral economies and securing local livelihoods.

Through locally owned dialogues, the SPRiNG Programme is helping farming and pastoralist communities find common ground and clear vital trade pathways:

🔷 Facilitating community-driven mediation to map and restore traditional grazing corridors across target zones.
🔷 Successfully reopened a 10-20km transhumance stock route in Jema’a LGA (Kaduna) that had been blocked and encroached upon for several years.
🔷 Establishing cooperative local structures to manage resource use and prevent future friction along migratory trade routes.

Securing these traditional corridors ensures that both agricultural and pastoral economies can prosper harmoniously without friction.

The SPRiNG Programme remains committed to delivering evidence-led action to address the root causes of conflict across North-West and North-Central Nigeria.

Our cumulative Year 2 data highlights the scale of our community-level engagement and our structured commitment to Gender Equality, Diversity, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI).

See some key achievements below:
🔷 78,332 total participants reached through direct programme interventions.
🔷 73% of all participants represent marginalised groups, including women, youth, and persons with disabilities.
🔷 47% of our total participant base were women and girls.
🔷 51% of participants were youth engaged in livelihood and peacebuilding initiatives.
🔷 2,685 persons with disabilities have been directly supported.
🔷 Over 30% of funding dedicated to GEDSI related activities.

These milestones provide a solid foundation as we continue working to strengthen and integrate local peace structures into state and national frameworks.

Today we are taking a look back at our recently held titled "Securing Her Future: Gender-Responsive Approaches to Enhancing Resilience to the Pressures of Climate Change".

Our panelists unpacked the complex relationship between resource scarcity, social cohesion, and the distinct transformative leadership roles women play in advancing climate change adaptation, mitigation, and community resilience.

Beyond the dialogue, SPRiNG promotes peace through innovative and inclusive climate resilience initiatives that supports communities to address resource scarcity, providing them with tools to transition from competition to cooperation in the management of natural resources, thus ensuring that sustainability and stability go hand in hand.

Check out the quote highlights from our panelists and moderator below. 👇

Not every dispute needs to escalate into physical violence. Often, what communities need is dialogue.

The SPRiNG Programme is equipping local mediators with the tools, skills, and confidence to intervene early, facilitate honest dialogues, and help conflicting groups identify practical solutions.

These mediators bring deep cultural knowledge and community trust: two elements critical to effective peacebuilding.

At the heart of resolution is one simple principle: dialogue saves relationships.

Yesterday, the SPRiNG Programme, represented by Team Leader Dr. Ukoha Ukiwo, alongside Deputy Team Leader Priscilla Ankut, and Research & Evidence Lead Ephraim Emah, paid a strategic visit to the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development - FMLD, where they met with the Honourable Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, and his team.

The meeting provided an important opportunity to reflect on the growing partnership between SPRiNG and the Ministry, and the progress made in advancing more peaceful, inclusive, and evidence-driven approaches to livestock development and pastoral governance in Nigeria.

Over the past year, SPRiNG has worked closely with the Ministry to support key initiatives including:

🔷 Strengthening the Peacebuilding, Security and Social Cohesion Pillar of the National Livestock Growth Acceleration Strategy (NL-GAS)

🔷 Supporting strategic communications and conflict-sensitive engagement around livestock reforms

🔷 Advancing dialogue and stakeholder engagement on pastoralism and agropastoralism

🔷 Supporting research, evidence generation, and policy development to strengthen resilience and reduce conflict

During the meeting, the Honourable Minister expressed appreciation for SPRiNG’s contributions and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to continued collaboration in driving sustainable and conflict-sensitive livestock reforms.

The visit was a strong reminder that meaningful progress is built through partnerships grounded in trust, evidence, and a shared commitment to long-term solutions.

As SPRiNG continues its work at the intersection of peacebuilding, climate resilience, and governance, partnerships such as this remain critical to ensuring that programming and research translates into practical actions that create lasting impact.

Some of the best ideas are born at the intersection of rigorous strategy, good company, and perhaps a well-seasoned meal.

As we transition into our third year, the SPRiNG team gathered for a working lunch that was equal parts "brain-food" and "food for thought."

Between bites, we dove deep into the DNA of the Programme: The Year 3 Logframe and Theory of Change.

While the task of reviewing indicators and milestones is undeniably formal, there was a certain whimsy in a room of peacebuilding experts "balancing" spreadsheets with smokey, spicy jollof.

Our mission for the afternoon is clear: structuring the collaborative frameworks that will empower the Programme and its partners to deliver high-impact results in the coming months.

We are refining how we work together to ensure that every intervention, from community-level initiatives to high-level policy reform is as balanced as our lunch: grounded in evidence, driven by inclusion, and focused on yielding lasting peace dividends.

The action is not just about reviewing accountability resources of the Programme; we are also reinforcing the foundations of peace and resilience across Nigeria.

Year 3 is underway, strategically fueled and ready for action. Year 3, we’re ready for you, and yes, we’re already thinking about what’s for lunch tomorrow 😁🤣😂.

This Workers' Day, SPRiNG celebrates the diverse workforce whose daily efforts drive our economy and strengthen the fabric of our society.

The restoration of local commerce and livelihoods provides more than just financial security; it creates a 'peace dividend' that addresses the root causes of instability.

Economic stability and peaceful coexistence are inseparable.

When individuals have the security to pursue their livelihoods, they gain a direct stake in protecting and maintaining the peace.

At SPRiNG, we recognise that a woman’s economic stability is directly linked to her ability to influence decision-making and lead in peace processes.

By collaborating with local partners and government institutions, we are expanding access to the resources, technical skills, and leadership platforms that women and girls need to thrive at both community and institutional levels.

When women gain economic power, they gain more than just livelihoods; they gain voice, agency, and influence. Prosperity removes barriers to engagement, allowing women to move from the margins to the centre of governance and conflict resolution.

By investing in women’s economic resilience, we aren't just supporting individuals, we are strengthening the entire architecture of peace across Nigeria.

Preventing violence begins long before a crisis erupts. It begins with listening.

SPRiNG is strengthening Early Warning and Early Response (EWER) systems by supporting communities to detect and gather reliable signals, analyse risks, develop and activate response pathways that prevent tensions from escalating.

From community monitors and local peace structures to traditional leaders and women’s groups, these actors play crucial roles in mobilising quick solutions that keep and sustain the stability of their communities.

By strengthening these networks, SPRiNG is helping communities stay safer, more informed, and better connected to response mechanisms.

For a deeper look into the evidence and data driving our peacebuilding strategies, explore our full library of research reports and success case studies.

You can also stay updated on our latest news and insights by signing up for the SPRiNG newsletter.

A stronger EWER system means a more resilient future.

In multiple Nigerian communities, climate pressures and conflict risks are often intertwined. Drought affects grazing patterns; floods limit access to farmland; temperature shifts strain water sources. These changes can intensify tensions, unless addressed holistically.

SPRiNG integrates climate adaptation with peacebuilding, supporting communities to understand climate impacts, develop shared coping strategies, and reduce competition around scarce resources.

Our Climate and Vulnerability Analysis report provides a data-led exploration of these dynamics, offering the analytical clarity needed for grounded intervention.

Complex problems require integrated solutions, and SPRiNG ensures communities have both the required tools and the partnerships to navigate these evolving challenges.
