Happy International Women's Day 2026
On this International Women's Day, as the Special Envoy on Sustainable Development and Nation-Buildingtothe Organization of West Africa Youth OWAY-ECOWAS. I want to officially reaffirm my unwavering conviction that no nation builds itself on the margins of half its people.
Across West Africa, women are not waiting to be included — they are leading, innovating, and holding communities together with extraordinary resolve. From the grassroots peacebuilder in the Sahel to the young techpreneur in Lagos, from the rural farmer sustaining food systems to the policy architect shaping regional governance — African women are the quiet engine of our development story.
Yet quiet engines deserve amplification, not silence.
As we pursue sustainable development across the ECOWAS region, I remain committed to frameworks that translate gender equity from rhetoric into resources, from aspiration into accountability. Youth-led development cannot be credible without the full, equal, and empowered participation of young women at every table of consequence.
This year's global theme: Give to Gain, calls us to accelerate action. We answer that call — not with ceremony alone, but with structure, with policy, and with the determination to build institutions that serve every young West African, regardless of gender.
To every woman and girl across our region: your ambition is legitimate. Your leadership is necessary. Your future is non-negotiable.
Happy International Women's Day!
