When the world says there is no ability in disability, this is exactly what we do at Bright-HANDs to change the narrative. We show the world that there is massive, undeniable ability in every single disability!

​Many parents and guardians of children with disabilities may have lived to regret not supporting their children's education. So many of them gave up, not because they didn't love their children, but because of intense societal discrimination and the painful words of onlookers who saw these precious children as "burdens" or "liabilities."

​But look at Nehemiah. He is the living, breathing proof that when you break down those closed doors and invest in a child's mind, barriers shatter.

​Nehemiah didn't let silence define his capacity. Through determination, the right guidance, and the power of education, he has risen above the stigma to showcase what happens when opportunity meets potential.
He is not begging on the streets; he is not living in depression. He is standing tall as an inspiration, a leader, and a beacon of hope for every young person out there who has been told they cannot achieve great things.

​Stories like Nehemiah’s are the exact reason why we went into the community of Kabusa last week. They are the reason we are fighting so hard to get children with disabilities into the classrooms this coming September.

We want their parents and every parent in Nigeria to look at Nehemiah and realize: "My child can do this too."

​Let’s stop hiding these stars behind closed doors. Let us give them the books, the signs, the love, and the tuition fees they need to shine.

Whenever we see children with disabilities, we see a great potential.

Why?
Because they carry a great destiny that millions of humans fail to recognize, but clearly visible to those who look deeper with an empathetic heart.

These children are left behind closed doors, struggling without hope,
No proper guidance or
Support to guide them due to Parental discrimination driven by societal stigma!

Yesterday, we went on a journey to meet with theirs parents one on one.
Our goal was to discuss and advocate for a vital importance of early education on children with disabilities, and to encourage them to enrolled their children back in school.

We have observed that when a child with disability lacks formal education. They are often pushed to the marginalized in the society, hereby face a lot of intense discrimination, stigma, poor self-esteem, and a profound lack of confidence in themselves.

Some are forced to survive by begging on the streets , while others suffer a lifetime of severe depression.

But with the right education, guidance and counseling, these children can become a great leaders in our society, just like many prominent figures with disabilities who inspire us today.

This is exactly why our foundation, Bright Horizons Advocacy Network for Person with Disabilities (Bright-HANDs) was established to support, guide, empower children, youth and women with disabilities through educational support and empowerment programs.

First Picture: A brilliant young boy named Goodluck alongside his mother, myself (team leader/Bright-HANDs) with their neighbors. The neighbours confirm that Goodluck has been out of school due to his parents unable to fund his tuition fee.

Second picture: Is a 8year old girl named Theresa Hapila from the small town of Kabusa, Abuja with her mother. Theresa has never stepped inside a classroom in her life right from birth, nor does she understand any spoken language, except her mother who can only communicate with her, using simple home grown sign language and body language.

Therefore, our Mission is to ensure both children are in school for the next term in September, 2026.

Recap on our impactful initiative for Menstrual Hygiene Day, we cannot help but reflect on the massive opportunity we had to touch the lives of girls living with disabilities.

​Our girls at the Special School for the Deaf, Enugu, have shared a deeply moving messages of appreciation. They spoke openly about how this program has already transformed their daily lives, and bravely shed light on the heavy silence and stigma they face regarding menstruation within the classroom.

​Hearing their stories has made one thing beautifully clear: our mission cannot stop here. This is an urgent call for continuous sponsorship to ensure that every girl with disability receives at least one pack of sanitary pads each month, and all year round.

​This life-changing impact was a collective victory, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who stood by us.

As part of the activities commemorating the 2026 Menstrual Hygiene Day, we successful partners with Falconscare Initiative For Women With Disabilities Empowerment to execute our 2026 Menstrual Support Drive!

​Guided by the powerful global framework and our localized sub-theme, "Together for Health, Dignity, and Inclusion," we took our mission straight to the classrooms where it matters most.

​Our sensitization program provided the students with invaluable knowledge on menstrual health, personal hygiene, and the critical importance of breaking the deep stigma surrounding menstruation for people with disabilities. Through deeply engaging, interactive sessions, these incredible participants were empowered with accurate information to help them navigate and manage their menstrual health safely, confidently, and with absolute dignity.

We also ensured that the boy-child was fully integrated into this training. By educating them on the vital importance of proper hygiene, health safety, and the essentials of management and protection. By involving young boys, we are intentionally fostering a school community rooted in mutual support, empathy, and shared responsibility.

​Beyond distributing resources, this program strongly emphasized the urgent need for a supportive school environment a safe space where every single girl and boy living with disabilities can thrive seamlessly without facing discrimination, systemic barriers, or isolation associated with menstruation.

​At Bright-HANDS, we remain fiercely committed to promoting inclusive, quality education for persons with disabilities and ensuring that no one is left behind.

Beyond the classroom, girls with disabilities deserve proper hygiene, health protection, and absolute dignity.

Today, we officially launch our Menstrual Support Drive in partnership with Falconscare Initiative For Women With Disabilities Empowerment. Together, to provide essential sanitary pads to our incredible students at the Special School for the Deaf, Enugu.

Our goal is to ensure that 3 out of 5 students get free period pads so that menstruation never forces them to miss out on their education or their confidence.

The 2026 world menstrual day Theme: "Together for a symbols the need to provide health menstrual hygiene for our girls.
Our sub theme: "Together for a Health, Dignity and Inclusion" shows that inclusion is a key factor to critical health affairs. Therefore, we are creating a inclusive spaces, to provide vital health tips and reproductive hygiene education for both the girls child and boy child, to fostering a community of mutual support, understanding and shared responsibility for all.

We want to show these girls that their community sees them, values them, and stands right alongside them.
