On April 14, 2026, the Global Disabilities Green Initiative (GDGI) participated in a high-level gathering at the United Nations House in Abuja, Nigeria, alongside members of Nigeria’s National Assembly and key national stakeholders. The event brought together representatives from the Executive arm of government—including the Office of the Vice President—the Federal Ministry of Environment, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), and leaders from the private sector. The engagement formed part of the Parliamentarians for Climate Finance event, themed “From Climate Commitments to Investments and Bankable Projects: Mobilising Climate Finance for Nigeria’s Green Transformation.”
Convened by Climate Parliament and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), with support from the Green Climate Fund, the initiative highlights the pivotal role of parliamentarians in translating climate pledges into tangible investments and actionable projects. It recognizes the unique influence of legislative bodies through their core functions—representation, lawmaking, and oversight—to drive inclusive, impactful, and sustainable development using constituency-based approaches.
GDGI commends the progress made under this initiative and appreciates the leadership and collaboration demonstrated by Climate Parliament and UNIDO. The organization remains committed to ensuring that persons with disabilities are fully included in Nigeria’s climate action and green development agenda.
As the project advances into its Readiness phase, with a focus on developing a pipeline of bankable climate projects, GDGI strongly advocates for the intentional and comprehensive inclusion of persons with disabilities. The organization stands ready to collaborate, contribute expertise, and support the design and implementation of projects that address critical infrastructure and development gaps—particularly those affecting persons with disabilities.
GDGI extends its sincere appreciation to Climate Parliament and UNIDO for the opportunity to engage and contribute to this important initiative.
