On April 14, 2026, the Global Disabilities Green Initiative (GDGI) participated in a high-level gathering at the United Nations House in Abuja, Nigeria, alongside members of Nigeria’s National Assembly and key national stakeholders. The event brought together representatives from the Executive arm of government—including the Office of the Vice President—the Federal Ministry of Environment, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), and leaders from the private sector. The engagement formed part of the Parliamentarians for Climate Finance event, themed “From Climate Commitments to Investments and Bankable Projects: Mobilising Climate Finance for Nigeria’s Green Transformation.”

Convened by Climate Parliament and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), with support from the Green Climate Fund, the initiative highlights the pivotal role of parliamentarians in translating climate pledges into tangible investments and actionable projects. It recognizes the unique influence of legislative bodies through their core functions—representation, lawmaking, and oversight—to drive inclusive, impactful, and sustainable development using constituency-based approaches.
GDGI commends the progress made under this initiative and appreciates the leadership and collaboration demonstrated by Climate Parliament and UNIDO. The organization remains committed to ensuring that persons with disabilities are fully included in Nigeria’s climate action and green development agenda.

As the project advances into its Readiness phase, with a focus on developing a pipeline of bankable climate projects, GDGI strongly advocates for the intentional and comprehensive inclusion of persons with disabilities. The organization stands ready to collaborate, contribute expertise, and support the design and implementation of projects that address critical infrastructure and development gaps—particularly those affecting persons with disabilities.

GDGI extends its sincere appreciation to Climate Parliament and UNIDO for the opportunity to engage and contribute to this important initiative.

🌿 Happy International Women’s Day 2026

Today, we celebrate the strength and leadership of women and girls, especially women with disabilities. At Global Disabilities Green Initiative (GDGI), we highlight the powerful link between gender equality and climate action.
Our message is simple: “Give to Gain.”
When women— including women with disabilities—are given equal access to education, leadership, and green opportunities, societies gain stronger communities, climate resilience, and sustainable development.
We call on governments, the private sector, and civil society to invest in inclusive climate action, women’s empowerment, and accessible green opportunities for women with disabilities.

Give to Gain. Empower Women. Protect the Planet. Transform Nigeria. 🌍💚

🌍♿ GDGI at the Forefront of Inclusive Climate Action in Abuja Nigeria ♿🌍

On Tuesday, 10th February 2026, the Global Disabilities Green Initiative (GDGI) proudly participated as a key stakeholder at the official launch of the UK PACT–supported project, “Building a Robust Climate Data and MRV System for Nigeria,” held at Reiz Continental Hotel, Central Business District, Abuja.

The event was convened by the National Council on Climate Change in collaboration with the Greenhouse Gas Management Institute and technical partners — Forts & Agro Consorts, Aether, and CITEPA. The project is supported by the UK Partnering for Accelerated Climate Transitions.

GDGI was represented by Angelina Ugben, President of the Global Disabilities Green Initiative (GDGI), who reaffirmed our commitment to ensuring that disability inclusion remains central to Nigeria’s climate governance and MRV systems.

This transformative initiative aims to strengthen Nigeria’s institutional capacity for climate data management and greenhouse gas inventory development, while embedding Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) into national climate frameworks.

We sincerely appreciate the organizers for prioritizing inclusion and creating space for diverse stakeholders. Climate action must be inclusive, accessible, and equitable — leaving no one behind, especially persons with disabilities.

GDGI remains committed to advancing inclusive climate policies and meaningful participation in Nigeria’s sustainable development journey. 💚🌱

The German and EU co-founded Nigeria Energy Support Programme (NESP III) recently hosted the close-out ceremony for the first and second cohorts of its mentorship programme in Abuja and Lagos.
This event marked a significant milestone in advancing inclusive capacity development within Nigeria’s renewable energy and climate change ecosystem.

As the President of the Global Disabilities Green Initiative (GDGI), I, Mrs. Angelina Ugben, commend the efforts of GIZ Nigeria and ECOWAS, working in collaboration with the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Association (REEEE-A) and the Women in Renewable Energy Association (WIRE-A), for successfully implementing such an inclusive and impactful mentorship programme.

My participation in the programme as a mentor with a disability was deeply rewarding. The initiative provided inspiration, built confidence, and created meaningful opportunities for persons with disabilities to actively contribute to climate change advocacy and sustainable energy development.
