Empowering women. Building livelihoods. Restoring dignity.
Economic empowerment goes beyond providing immediate support it is about creating opportunities that enable individuals to become self-reliant and resilient.
Through this project, displaced women are being equipped with vocational skills in traditional cap-making and local crafts, alongside hands on training and mentorship designed to help them turn their skills into sustainable sources of income.
Beyond learning a craft, these women are gaining something even more valuable: the confidence, skills, and opportunity to build a more secure future for themselves and their families.
At SproutBud, we believe that when women are given the right tools and opportunities, they can transform not only their own lives but also strengthen their communities.
Here’s to creating pathways from skills to income, vulnerability to resilience, and displacement to renewed independence. ❤️

World Environment Day 2026 | National Tree Planting Campaign Launch

SproutBud was delighted to participate in the launch of the National Tree Planting Campaign 2026 and the commemoration of World Environment Day, organised by the Federal Ministry of Environment in Abuja.

Represented by members of the SproutBud GreenFront Team, we joined government officials, development partners, students, and environmental advocates in the tree-planting exercise at GSS Maitama, Abuja, demonstrating our shared commitment to environmental restoration and climate resilience.

This initiative aligns closely with the goals of the Abuja Extreme Heat Resilience Project (A-EHRP), a flagship project under SproutBud’s National Extreme Heat Resilience Programme. Through this programme, we are advancing solutions to extreme heat, deforestation, biodiversity loss, flooding, and public health challenges through research, advocacy, ecosystem restoration, and youth-led climate action.

We are encouraged by the Federal Government’s ambitious target of planting 20 billion trees between 2026 and 2030 to restore degraded landscapes, strengthen carbon sequestration, create green jobs, and build a more climate-resilient Nigeria.

At SproutBud, we remain committed to contributing meaningfully to this vision through tree planting, environmental education, youth mobilisation, strategic partnerships, and evidence-based climate action that delivers lasting impact for communities across the Federal Capital Territory and beyond.

Economic empowerment is more than income—it’s dignity, hope, and a pathway to lasting resilience.
In many IDP communities across Maiduguri, Borno State, displaced women and girls continue to face immense economic hardship, leaving them vulnerable to exploitation and harmful survival strategies simply to meet their basic needs.
Our project, “Empowering Displaced Women Through Traditional Cap-Making,” seeks to change that narrative by equipping women with practical vocational skills, mentorship, and access to markets. Through this initiative, we aim to help them build sustainable livelihoods, regain financial independence, and create a future defined by opportunity rather than vulnerability.
When women are empowered with the right skills and resources, they don’t just transform their own lives—they strengthen families, uplift communities, and inspire lasting change.
We’re excited to be part of this journey and remain committed to creating sustainable impact where it’s needed most.

Empowering Youth for Heat Resilience and Climate Action

As part of our commitment to advancing youth leadership under the National Extreme Heat Resilience Programme (NEHRP), SproutBud has commenced youth engagement activities through the Abuja Extreme Heat Resilience Project.Recognizing that today’s youth are tomorrow’s decision-makers, policymakers, researchers, and climate leaders, we understand that their role in building climate-resilient communities cannot be underestimated. Beyond knowledge transfer, youth participation provides the energy, innovation, and community influence needed to drive long-term environmental action.In collaboration with the University of Abuja Conservation Club, we recently held an engagement session with the Club’s leadership, introducing them to the National Extreme Heat Resilience Programme, the Abuja Extreme Heat Resilience Project, and practical climate adaptation approaches such as the 3-30-300 Rule for urban greening and heat reduction.This initiative aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life on Land), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). It also contributes to Nigeria’s climate ambitions under its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) through nature-based solutions that support emissions reduction, climate adaptation, urban cooling, and environmental sustainability.

We are equally encouraged by the alignment between this work and Nigeria’s recently launched National Tree Planting Campaign, which seeks to restore ecosystems, reduce heat stress, combat flooding, improve air quality, and contribute to the planting of 20 billion trees nationwide. The campaign reinforces the importance of the solutions we have been championing through our heat resilience initiatives.

In Maiduguri, Borno State, internally displaced women and girls face economic hardship and vulnerability to exploitation due to limited access to decent work. Many resort to harmful survival strategies, including exposure to sexual abuse, to meet basic needs. The lack of sustainable livelihoods exacerbates poverty, dependency, and insecurity within IDP camps, making long-term recovery and stability difficult.

University of Abuja Cleanup 2.0 🌍

We were excited to return to the University of Abuja for Cleanup 2.0, in partnership with the University of Abuja Conservation Club, as part of our commitment to strengthening youth-led environmental action across higher institutions.

The engagement focused on environmental sensitization, cleanup, and proper waste disposal, helping students and market stakeholders understand the importance of maintaining clean surroundings, reducing plastic pollution, and adopting sustainable waste management practices.

Together, we carried out cleanup activities at the Old Male Hostel and surrounding environment as well as the campus market, demonstrating practical actions that contribute to cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable communities.

Kudos to the University of Abuja Conservation Club, the Old Male Hostel Governor, university management, and all the student volunteers whose leadership and participation made the exercise a success.
