The Nigerian Bar Association has taken a significant step towards a more inclusive legal profession with the formal adoption of the NBA Disability Inclusion Policy by the National Executive Council on 7 May 2026.

This landmark policy reinforces a clear commitment to:
• Zero tolerance for discrimination
• Full accessibility within legal practice
• Equal opportunities for growth and leadership
• Reasonable accommodation for legal professionals with disabilities

A profession that truly upholds justice must be accessible to all.

Together, we move towards a Bar without barriers.

The Nigerian Bar Association has become the first Bar Association in Africa to adopt a Disability Inclusion Policy.

Today, 7th May 2026, the National Executive Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association, at its meeting held in Awka, formally adopted the Disability Inclusion Policy drafted by the NBA Lawyers with Disabilities Forum. This landmark decision underscores the NBA’s resolve to promote accessibility, inclusion, and the full participation of lawyers with disabilities within the legal profession and the Association’s structures, programmes, and activities.

With this development, the Nigerian Bar Association has set an important precedent for professional bodies and institutions across Africa.

We particularly appreciate the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mazi Afam Osigwe, for his proactive leadership and support for disability inclusion within the legal profession. We also commend the Governing Council of the NBA Lawyers with Disabilities Forum ably led by Patience N. Etumudon for its dedication and collective efforts in achieving this milestone.

…pursuing a disability inclusive Bar.

In this sacred season of Easter, we are reminded of the profound triumph of light over darkness, hope over despair, and life over death. The message of the Cross speaks not only of sacrifice, but of renewal—the assurance that no matter how heavy the burden or how long the night, restoration is always within reach.

May this season invite you to pause and reflect, to draw strength from faith, and to embrace the promise of new beginnings. Let it rekindle a deeper sense of purpose, inspire acts of love and compassion, and restore peace in every troubled corner of your heart.

As we celebrate, may your home be filled with joy, your path guided with clarity, and your days enriched with grace and abundant blessings. May the resurrection power of this season uplift you and all that concerns you.

Wishing you and your loved ones a truly meaningful and joy-filled Easter.

Signed,

Patience N. Etumudon

Dear Esteemed Members,

On this year’s International Women's Day, I warmly celebrate every member of the NBA Lawyers with Disabilities Forum and commend the courage, resilience, and excellence that women continue to demonstrate within the legal profession and society at large.

The theme for this year, “Give To Gain,” reminds us that progress is achieved when we extend support, mentorship, and opportunities to one another. Today, we particularly honour the strength and invaluable contributions of women with disabilities in the legal profession who continue to break barriers, inspire change, and advance the ideals of justice and inclusion.

As a Forum, let us remain committed to fostering an environment where every woman, regardless of circumstance, is empowered to thrive, lead, and contribute meaningfully to the growth of our profession and society.

Happy International Women’s Day.

Patience N. Etumudon,
Chairperson, NBA-Lawyers with Disabilities Forum.

⚖️ The law speaks strongest when it speaks for everyone.

Access to justice remains out of reach for many persons with disabilities. As members of the Bar, we are uniquely positioned to change that.

The NBA-Lawyers With Disabilities Forum ( NBA-LWDF) is calling for lawyers willing to serve as Pro Bono Disability Rights Advocates — professionals prepared to lend their expertise to a cause that goes beyond litigation and into lasting impact.

If you’ve been called to the Nigerian Bar, you’re eligible to step forward.

Service. Responsibility. Impact.

The question is not whether the need exists — it does.
The question is who will answer.
