**Stakeholder Engagement with FCT Gender-Based Violence Response Team**

As part of the *Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG)* project in Nigeria, implemented with support from the Nigerian Women Trust Fund, the African Centre for Entrepreneurship and Information Development (ACEIDEV) conducted a stakeholder engagement visit to the FCT Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Response Team.

The engagement aimed to strengthen institutional collaboration and enhance coordination mechanisms for effective GBV prevention and response within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). It provided a strategic platform for knowledge exchange, alignment of interventions, and reinforcement of a survivor-centered, multi-sectoral approach to addressing GBV.

During the visit, ACEIDEV formally presented and distributed its newly developed *Policy Brief* and *Understanding the Legal Landscape for Women’s Rights and Gender Rights Manual*. These resources are designed to support evidence-based advocacy, improve awareness of existing legal frameworks, and promote survivor-centered service delivery.

ACEIDEV also briefed the Response Team on its ongoing EVAWG interventions, including community mobilization initiatives, stakeholder capacity-building efforts, and survivor support services. In response, the FCT GBV Response Team shared updates on prevailing GBV trends, existing referral pathways, and key operational challenges affecting service delivery within the territory.

The Response Team acknowledged that the engagement would foster stronger synergy and collaboration between ACEIDEV and relevant GBV stakeholders in the FCT. They further noted that the distributed materials would serve as critical advocacy tools to inform policy dialogue, enhance understanding of survivor rights, and strengthen coordinated, multi-sectoral responses to violence against women and girls.

The FCT GBV Response Team expressed appreciation to ACEIDEV and the Nigerian Women Trust Fund for their continued support and commitment to advancing gender justice and fostering sustainable partnerships in the fight against GBV.

In a strategic move to strengthen community-based advocacy, the ACEIDEV team paid a courtesy visit to Rev. Fr. Dr. Clement Igyeseh at St. Ignatius of Padua Catholic Church, Karu. The primary objective of the meeting was to discuss collaborative pathways for Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG) within the FCT and across Nigeria, leveraging the influence of faith-based institutions.
The ACEIDEV team emphasized that religious leaders are critical stakeholders in changing social norms. Since they command high levels of trust within the community, their voices are essential in condemning gender-based violence (GBV) and providing moral guidance to congregants. Discussions highlighted the prevalence of domestic violence and the various socio-economic factors that contribute to the vulnerability of women and girls in suburban areas like Karu.
Rev. Fr. Dr. Clement Igyeseh welcomed the ACEIDEV delegation and expressed his support for the initiative. He acknowledged the urgency of addressing violence in society and noted that the church remains committed to the protection of the vulnerable. He expressed a willingness to explore how the parish can work alongside ACEIDEV to foster a safer environment for women and girls.
The visit was a successful step in expanding the reach of the EVAWG campaign into the religious sector of the FCT.

ACEIDEV intends to follow up with formal engagement strategies to integrate advocacy materials into church activities and continue building a network of "faith champions" against violence.

On Friday, February 13, 2026, AECIDEV successfully conducted a community sensitization program aimed at addressing the prevalence of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) in Nigeria. The event, held at the Chief’s Palace in the Nyanya community, brought together local women, community leaders, and advocates to discuss safety, legal rights, and prevention strategies.

The primary goals of the sensitization program among other things was to build on the gains of previous engagement with the community and to further

* To educate participants on the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act (VAPP Act) and other legal frameworks providing protection.
* To foster a supportive environment where survivors can seek help without the fear of social stigma.
* To strengthen community-led advocacy through the support of the Nigerian Women Trust Fund.
* Distribution and summary of the Policy Brief

Facilitators from ACEIDEV led interactive sessions with the participants defining physical, emotional, and economic abuses. They provided practical steps on how to report cases to the appropriate authorities.

Informational materials were distributed to participants to help them act as peer educators within their respective neighborhoods.

The program reached a significant number of women in the Nyanya area, many of whom expressed a newfound understanding of their rights and also laid some examples of VAWG incidents they have seen and promised to report any. By holding the event at the Chief’s Palace, the initiative gained "traditional legitimacy," encouraging men and community elders to also take a stand against violence.

Through the strategic sponsorship of the Nigerian Women Trust Fund, AECIDEV has taken a vital step toward domesticating the fight against VAWG at the grassroots level. The Nyanya sensitization serves as a model for community-based interventions in the FCT.
