One young boy, said to be suffering from mental instability, was tragically sh and k by local security personnel in a school in Ibana, Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State. Reports indicate that he wandered into the premises at an odd hour, confused and unaware of his surroundings. A video circulating shows him after being apprehended—harmless, incoherent, and clearly in need of help, not violence.
Instead of being handed over to the appropriate authorities, such as the Nigerian Police Force, his life was cut short in a reckless and deeply disturbing manner. While I cannot categorically confirm whether he was a thief or mentally unwell, what is undeniable is that this young man was a human being who deserved compassion, due process, and the chance for rehabilitation—not ex*****on.
This is a painful reminder of how far we still have to go in upholding the value of human life, especially for the vulnerable among us.
I call on our distinguished traditional rulers, the Nigerian Police Force, the Honourable Chairman of Olamaboro Local Government, political representatives, sons and daughters of our land, all Kogites, and His Excellency, Governor Ahmed Ododo, to urgently look into this matter.
We must not normalize brutality. We must not excuse unlawful killings. We must not allow fear or ignorance to override justice and humanity.
Olamaboro has always been known as a peaceful and blessed land. We cannot allow such acts to stain our identity.
Enough is enough.
Let this be a turning point. Let there be accountability. Let there be justice.
Please do not stay silent. Share this message until it reaches those in authority. Let the voice of the people demand justice.
