FINANCIAL PROSPERITY IS THE WILL OF GOD!
I would like to dissolve every doubt in your mind over this issue of whether it is God’s will for Christians to prosper financially in this world. The Bible says in 3 John 2: “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”
Similarly, in 2 Corinthians 8:9, it is written: For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.” So, Jesus died on the cross not only to take away our sins but also to replace our poverty with his riches! That is good news!
God’s original plan for mankind from the time man was created was for humans to live in abundance of all things and develop the earth. “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” (Gen. 1:27-28).
The word ‘replenish’ in this passage actually means to develop and to complete the remaining process. God expected man to complete the process of making the planet earth like heaven using the creative nature of God in him. This is why Eden, the first dwelling place of man was so much enriched with water and mineral resources (Gen. 2:8-12).
Even after the fall of man, God kept His promise of prosperity with those who will labour and keep His covenant. “While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease” (Gen. 8:22).
For example, few years after Abraham left his father and home land in obedience to God, in spite of his wandering about looking for where to settle, the first testimony of his obedience was increased wealth and riches. “And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south. And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold” (Gen. 13:1-2).
Hear the testimony of Eliezer, Abraham’s servant: And he said, “I am Abraham's servant. And the LORD hath blessed my master greatly; and he is become great: and he hath given him flocks, and herds, and silver, and gold, and menservants, and maidservants, and camels, and asses” (Gen 24:34-35). Who blessed Abraham and gave him silver and gold? The Lord! The same trend followed His covenant linage till today. Isaac was a very rich man. Jacob was so rich that during famine, he had the financial capacity to send ten men abroad to buy food. It was in that process they met Joseph, his lost son. The nation of Israel, today’s covenant carriers of the Abrahamic covenant, apart from Christians, is a very rich country in spite of their small size.
At the end of Abraham’s life, the Bible said “And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things” (Gen. 24:1).
The God we serve, who has become our Father in Heaven, is referred to as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He said, “I AM the Lord, I change not” (Mal. 3:6).
If God prospered Abraham and His generation, he can prosper you too because prosperity is the will of God. “Look unto Abraham your father, and unto Sarah that bare you: for I called him alone, and blessed him, and increased him. For the LORD shall comfort Zion: he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the LORD” (Isaiah 51:2-3).
MEMORY VERSE: Psalm 35:27—“Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.”
PRAYER: Father, in the name of Jesus, release your covenant power upon me as you did in the life of Isaac, and prosper the works of my hands. As I go out today let me find favour in your sight and in the sight of men, in Jesus’ name.
