The FutureMap Foundation fellowship whose first phase has been completed has onboarded 80 fellows into its newly launched Future Tech Fellowship (FTF), selected from a pool of over 2,400 applicants drawn from Nigeria, Ghana, and Cameroon.

The programme spans four technical tracks; Product Design, Data Science, Frontend Development, and Backend Development, with 20 fellows per track. Participants were drawn from all 36 Nigerian states, underscoring the scale of interest in outcome-driven digital training across the country.

FutureMap Foundation Equips African Youths for Digital Careers, Says Executive Director

The Executive Director of FutureMap Foundation, Dr. Shuaib Sani Shuaib, has said the organisation is bridging the gap between academic training and employment by equipping young Africans with practical digital skills, industry exposure and career opportunities through its flagship Future Tech Fellowship (FTF).

Speaking at a Digital Innovation Workshop for Graduates in Jigawa State, Dr. Shuaib said the Foundation was committed to producing not just graduates but technology professionals capable of driving Africa’s digital transformation.

At Insight Learning Forum (ILF) 2026, organised by eHealth Africa, Futuremap Foundation engaged with Villgro Africa to explore how African startups can move beyond great ideas to build safe, scalable and commercially viable health and life science solutions.

The session reinforced that strengthening innovation ecosystems, fostering strategic partnerships and supporting entrepreneurs through the entire product journey are essential to accelerating better healthcare outcomes across Africa. The Digital Kidney Wallet 3.0 led Isah Dahiru was presented by Dr Shuaib Sani Shuaib as an example of an innovation progressing along this pathway.

The FutureMap team held a high-level strategic engagement with the Jigawa State Government and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) following growing interest from Regional Development Commissions and several state governments in leveraging the FutureMap model to accelerate human capital development and build a thriving digital gig economy.

Central to these discussions were our newly commissioned Academy and Clinic in Jigawa State. Together, these institutions serve as integrated platforms for developing digital talent, advancing technology-enabled healthcare, fostering innovation, and creating sustainable employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for young people.

We are encouraged by the remarkable commitment demonstrated by our partners and are delighted to announce that FutureMap has secured high-level commitments and meaningful partnership pledges to scale this vision. How do we build lasting impact? By bringing the right people together around the right ideas.

The commissioning of the Academy and Clinic in Hadejia was more than the launch of two institutions, it was the culmination of months of strategic engagement with government, academia, traditional institutions, development partners, healthcare professionals, and Nigeria’s innovation ecosystem.

From evidence-driven planning and community consultations to engagement with Bayero University, Kano, Nigeria through Directorate of Research, Innovation and Partnership (DRIP), Bayero University, Kano and partnerships with National Information Development Agency (), , National Primary Health Care Development Agency (), Google Developer Groups, the Innovation Support Network (), and the Hadejia Emirate, Federal Government of Nigeria, and state governments this initiative demonstrates that sustainable development is built through collaboration.

Together, we’re advancing healthcare, innovation, youth empowerment, and human capital development, we are building a model that works for everyone.
