Founded in 2009, Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) is a non-partisan, non-profit capacity building organization that works to strengthen democratic governance and citizens’ participation in Nigeria. Through broad-based technical assistance and training, PLAC works to promote citizens’ engagement with government institutions and to advocate for legal and policy reforms and promote transparenc

At the core of PLAC’s programming is a deep commitment to increase legislative advocacy, promote transparency and good governance, support and promote electoral reforms, enhance citizen’s access to public policies and advance anti-corruption campaigns. Over its 3 years of history, PLAC has worked and evolved into a foremost and leading institution with capacity to deliver cutting-edge research, policy analysis and advocacy. PLAC is governed by a seven-member board of directors comprising senior lawyers, journalists, and academics and operated by a 16-member staff.

At the Citizens’ Townhall on Constitution Alteration Bills organized by Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre - PLAC last month, Hon Julius Ihonvbere delivered the keynote address on behalf of Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives and Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Constitution Review.

In the address, he described the ongoing Constitution Amendment as a national rebirth and assured Nigerians that the 10th House of Representatives is committed to a process that is inclusive and representative of the will of the people.

Last month at the Citizens’ Townhall on Constitution Alteration Bills organized by PLAC, Governance Advisor at UK in Nigeria, Dr. Matthew Ayibakuro spoke on the ongoing Constitution Amendment process, stating that reform processes are strongest when they are transparent and informed by evidence.

The townhall brought together lawmakers, policy stakeholders, civil society actors and citizens to discuss ongoing constitutional amendment proposals before the National Assembly, including issues relating to electoral reform, local government autonomy, state policing, judicial reforms and legislative inclusion.
