Jomurota Community Care Initiative (JCCI)
Yesterday, we successfully carried out a comprehensive integrated health intervention at Gongola IDP Camp, Jabi, Abuja, in collaboration with the FCT Tuberculosis, Buruli Ulcer and Leprosy Control Programme (STBLCP) and with funding support from the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI).
Our dedicated team provided essential healthcare services to the displaced community, focusing on early detection and treatment of prevalent infectious diseases. Activities included:
Health education session on TB and HIV prevention, symptoms, and the importance of timely testing
TB Screening
HIV Screening
Malaria and Typhoid Screening
Administration of appropriate medications to those who tested positive
These integrated services demonstrate our commitment to improving the health and well-being of vulnerable populations in IDP camps, where access to quality healthcare remains a significant challenge.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the STBLCP team and CHAI for their partnership and support in making this intervention possible. Special thanks to our committed volunteers and health workers who worked tirelessly under the sun to serve the community with compassion and professionalism.
At Jomurota Community Care Initiative, we remain dedicated to promoting health equity, community empowerment, and holistic care for women, children, and youth β€” especially those affected by displacement.
Together, we are building healthier, stronger communities. πŸ’™

βœ… What To Do Within 20 Minutes of R**e

πŸ’” First of all, please know β€” it is not your fault. You are not to blame for what happened. Your safety and healing matter.

1. Run to Safety Immediately πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ
β€’ Leave the place quickly and go to a safe location β€” a neighbor’s house, a friend’s place, or anywhere you trust.
β€’ If you are in danger, call someone you trust immediately.

2. Preserve Evidence 🚫🚿
β€’ Do NOT bath, wash, or brush your teeth.
β€’ Do NOT change your clothes yet.
β€’ If you must change, put the clothes (including underwear) inside a clean paper bag or envelope β€” not nylon (plastic).
β€’ Don’t clean the environment; there may be evidence.

3. Get Medical Help Immediately πŸ₯
β€’ Go straight to a government hospital, teaching hospital, or a hospital with a SGBV (Sexual and Gender-Based Violence) unit.
β€’ Examples for Nigerians: LUTH (Lagos), UCH (Ibadan), ABUTH (Zaria), UNTH (Enugu), FMCs, or Mirabel Centre (Lagos).
β€’ Ask for a forensic medical exam (r**e kit), STI prevention, and emergency contraception (must be taken within 72–120 hours, but the earlier the better).
β€’ Ask about HIV prevention drugs (PEP) β€” must be started within 72 hours.

4. Speak Out & Report if Possible πŸ“ž
β€’ Call someone you trust (friend, family, pastor) to support you.
β€’ You can report to the nearest police station β€” request the Gender Desk Officer (many stations now have them).
β€’ You can also call NGOs like Mirabel Centre Lagos (0815 555 5275) or WARDC (0809 210 0009) if in Nigeria..

5. Write Down What You Remember ✍️
β€’ Time, location, description of the attacker, clothes, vehicle, and anything you can recall. This helps if you choose to report later.

6. Care for Your Emotions πŸ’•
β€’ Shock, fear, anger, shame β€” all are normal feelings.
β€’ Talk to a counselor, pastor, or trusted friend.
β€’ Do not keep silent; healing begins when you speak up.

Hope this helpsπŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•
