PRESS RELEASE/EDITORIAL: AHOA TO INSTALL PATRONS AND MATRONS AND CONFER FELLOWSHIPS – CELEBRATING LEADERSHIP AND EXCELLENCE IN HEALTH, CLIMATE ACTIONS, AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

The Afrihealth Optonet Association (AHOA) is set to host a landmark ceremony for the installation of its Patrons and Matrons and the conferment of AHOA Fellowships, in the first quarter of 2026, signaling a major milestone in the organization’s ongoing efforts to strengthen health systems, climate actions, and civil society leadership in Africa and Global South. This forthcoming event celebrates individuals whose dedication, expertise, and vision have significantly advanced global health, policy advocacy, and community empowerment.

The installation of Patrons and Matrons is more than a ceremonial gesture. It formally recognizes distinguished leaders from diverse sectors—including global health, governance, academia, and civil society—who will provide strategic guidance, mentorship, and advocacy support to AHOA across and beyond the 121 countries where AHOA currently has members. Their roles are instrumental in shaping organizational direction, influencing health policy, and enhancing the AHOA Network’s capacity to deliver innovative and impactful interventions across communities.

Equally significant is the conferment of AHOA Fellowships, awarded to professionals who have demonstrated exceptional contributions to health and climate/environment systems strengthening, research, advocacy, and programme implementation. These Fellows exemplify excellence, integrity, and a commitment to societal well-being, serving as both role models and catalysts for emerging health and development leaders. By honouring these individuals, AHOA reinforces the importance of professional recognition as a tool for motivation, innovation, and sustained impact in civil society work.

This dual celebration underscores the synergy between strong institutional governance and dedicated leadership. In a region where health and climate/environment systems face persistent challenges—from workforce shortages and limited funding to complex global health emergencies—the expertise and influence of Patrons, Matrons, and Fellows are crucial. They provide the vision, networks, and strategic insights needed to drive evidence-based interventions, advocate for policy reform, and empower communities to achieve better health outcomes.

The forthcoming ceremony also highlights the pivotal role of civil society organizations in advancing health, climate/environment and development agendas. Through initiatives led by AHOA, communities benefit from enhanced access to health information, improved services, and strengthened advocacy platforms. The event serves as a public affirmation of the values that define AHOA: commitment, service, integrity, and innovation.

As the Association prepares to celebrate its distinguished Patrons, Matrons, and Fellows, the occasion promises to inspire a new generation of health/climate/environment leaders and civil society actors. It is both a recognition of past achievements and a forward-looking declaration of AHOA’s enduring commitment to transformative health and societal development in Africa.

We welcome you to be counted among our Patrons, Matrons, and Fellows.
