DESCRIPTION
The Followership Movement is not an activist or critics group but a Non-Governmental Organization with a unique mandate of raising good citizens with the right values and attitudes for National Transformation. Its central focus is Citizenship education, Value re-orientation, Raising Patriotic consciousness, and Personal development with the right value system. Our Mandate of raising good citizens for our beloved Nation is centered on raising an effective followership bloc for Nigeria. Good citizenship involves active and effective followership so as to propagate good leadership, which equals good governance. This is a movement from the old order of complaining, criticism, and whining to a new order; an order of selflessness, sacrifice, and responsibility for our fatherland. Over the years, scholars, organizations, and technocrats have invested heavily on building and raising an effective leadership bloc. We have more books on leadership, more seminars and workshops on being a good leader. Amazingly, the answer to having an effective leadership is building an effective followership bloc. Leadership depends on followers and vice versa. Good governance in any nation or state is a product of the conscious and calculated effort of both the followers and the leaders of such nation. The Nigerian Nation is not an exception to this fact. Over the years, Nigeria has been ravaged and burdened by followership deficit, which has in turn created a high level of leadership vacuum. Good governance in any democratic setting is a result of positive and interactive inter-course between the followers and the leaders. Thus, good followership plus good leadership equals good governan
ce. Democracy is a game of number and the only system of government that allows the citizens to contract the leaders. In fact, the followers in any democratic society remain the largest and the strongest bloc. Based on this numerical supremacy to the leaders, they wield a lot of power in determining, molding and shaping a nation. The leaders of a nation is elected or selected from the people (followers). “The bad and evil leaders of today were followers of yesterday who failed in followership.” Thus, a success in followership today guarantees us good leadership tomorrow. Rick Ungar (2011) posited that “citizens should not expect good leadership without good followership.” Invariably, followership is a major needed resource for political and social transformation. Thus, the essence of this movement; “The Followership Movement”. The vision of this movement — Raising Citizens with the Right Values and Attitudes for National Transformation is aimed to be achieved through the planting of the right values (seeds) in every Nigerian. It is our greatest desire and resolves to raise a generation of patriotic Nigerians; who live for community other than self, who possesses the right cultural values such as the values of honesty, integrity, responsibility, service, peace, love, diligence, cleanliness, respect, kindness, excellence, selflessness and righteousness. A new Nigeria is achievable, but we must all work together as a people in unity, sacrifice and selflessness. “Only Nigerians can save Nigeria”. But one that must save Nigeria must first be saved and that is what we are committed to achieving. This NGO is about serving, obeying, satisfying and achieving. This NGO is not about whining, shirking, fantasizing or blaming
This NGO will not be popular
This NGO will be real. Come let’s build a heavenly Nigeria by starting with self
Welcome aboard! The Followership Movement
