On Thursday, with support from Nigerian Women Trust Fund and Ford Foundation , Media & Advocacy for Youth Advancement took a bold step at Mararaba Market to confront the issue of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) head-on. Markets are not just centers of trade; they are vibrant communities where people gather, interact, and share values. That is why we chose the bustling Mararaba Market as the stage to spark meaningful conversations.
Through a thought-provoking play, we brought to life the hidden realities of GBV, its dangers, its impact on families, and its devastating effect on the community. The response was powerful. Traders, buyers, and passersby paused from their daily hustle to listen, watch, and reflect. Many nodded in agreement, others voiced their support, and together the marketplace echoed one resounding message: there is no place for abuse in our community.
This action was not just about awareness, it was about mobilization. By taking the message of safety and dignity to everyday spaces like the market, we are empowering people to recognize GBV, reject harmful norms, and stand up for survivors. Every conversation started, every head turned, and every pledge made that day was a step toward building a safer community for all.
Together, we are proving that change begins where people live, work, and gather.
