The Silver Ledge (episode 2)

Thermal Ghost

The heat from the burning cabin was at Elias’s back, a roaring orange wall that turned the falling snow into a scalding mist. He didn't look back to see the charred remains of his only home; he only looked forward into the suffocating darkness of the tree line. The Aegis drones were screaming overhead now, their searchlights slicing through the smoke like white-hot blades.

Maya was unnervingly heavy in his arms. The silver veins on her neck weren't just glowing anymore; they were humming. The vibration traveled through her swaddle and into Elias’s chest, a low-frequency pulse that seemed to steady his own frantic heart.

"Stay quiet, little light," he gritted out, his boots sinking deep into the forest soil.

He reached the edge of a frozen ravine. Below, the ice was slick and treacherous, but it was the only way to break his heat signature. As he slid down the embankment, a mechanical voice boomed from the sky, amplified and distorted by the wind.

“Subject detected. Deployment of Ground Unit 7 authorized. Secure the Prime. Eliminate the Guardian."

Elias hit the bottom of the ravine, the impact jolting his spine. He scrambled into a narrow ice cave just as a cluster of red tracking lasers swept over the spot where he had stood seconds before. He held his breath, pressing Maya close. Outside, he heard the heavy, rhythmic thud of pressurized boots hitting the snow. The Aegis ground team was moving with a precision that was terrifyingly inhuman.

He looked down at the child. She was staring up at him, her eyes wide and swirling with that mercury-silver light. She wasn't crying. She was watching the entrance of the cave, her tiny hand curling into a fist as if she were waiting for the fight to find them.

The Silver Ledger (episode 1)

The snow crunching under Elias’s boots sounded like breaking bone in the unnatural silence of the forest.

He adjusted his grip on the bundle against his chest, feeling the strange, rhythmic heat radiating from the infant.

This was the burden he had been chosen to carry, a child whose very existence was a death sentence for them both. Behind him, the log cabin that had been their only sanctuary for months stood like a dark tomb against the large landscape.

High above, the sky was a bruised shade of purple, dominated by a moon so red it looked like a fresh wound. It cast a crimson glow over the pines, making the shadows look like pools of ink. Elias did not look up. He didn't need to see the Aegis drones to know they were there. He could hear the faint, predatory hum of their engines and the way the air felt charged with the static of their scanning lasers.

Maya stirred in her swaddle, a soft whimper escaping her lips. Elias felt a sharp pang of grief. She was so small, so unaware that her blood carried the weight of an entire race’s survival.

He remembered the face of his sister, her desperate final plea as she handed him the child before the Aegis fire took her. He had promised to keep this girl alive, even if he had to burn the world down to do it.

A sudden, sharp red beam sliced through the mist, splashing across the snow just feet away from his boots. Elias froze. His heart hammered against his ribs like a trapped bird. The hunt was no longer distant. They were being painted.

The hum grew into a roar. The wind from the rotors began to whip the snow into a blinding frenzy. Elias tightened his arm around Maya, shielding her from the cold and the prying eyes of the machines. He could smell the ozone and the scent of burnt metal.

"Not today," he whispered, his voice disappearing into the howling wind. "You will not have her today."

He turned toward the tree line, his eyes catching the first flicker of silver light beneath the baby's skin. The prophecy was waking up, and the forest was waiting to see if they would survive the first strike of the night.

The vein of kings (prelude)

The world did not end with a bang, but with a collar.

For a thousand years, the howling in the night was a song of freedom. We were the wardens of the wild, the silver-blooded bridge between the forest and the stars.

But humans have always feared what they cannot cage. They traded their spears for circuits and their fear for cold, clinical precision.

They formed **The AEGIS**.

They called our nature a "contagion." They called our history a "plague." With needles of liquid lead and walls of electrified silver, they didn't just hunt us—they harvested us.

Every werewolf captured was stripped of their pride, injected with a black-bile serum that silenced the wolf and chained the man. Now, we are a race of ghosts, living in the rotting seams of a world that thinks it has evolved beyond the moon.

But blood has a memory.

Ancient law speaks of the “Lunar Prime.”

Once every five centuries, a child is born whose blood is untainted by the Aegis’s chemicals. A child who does not just carry the wolf, but commands the moon itself.

The Aegis thinks they have won. They think the shadows are empty. But tonight, the air tastes of ozone and ancient earth. The countdown has ended. The first cry of the Prime has been heard, and the hunters are coming with fire in their eyes.

The moon is rising. And for the first time in a hundred years, it is red.

The silence of the northern woods was not the silence of peace; it was the silence of a held breath. High above the canopy, the stars were being blotted out by the silent, matte-black hulls of Aegis scout-drones. Their thermal eyes scanned the pines, looking for the one thing they weren't supposed to find: a heartbeat that pulsed with the rhythm of the tides.

Deep in the belly of a forgotten cabin, the air grew thick. The shadows didn't just fall—they seemed to lean toward the small bundle wrapped in coarse wool.

The prophecy wasn't just coming. It was breathing.
