PV2 Investigation in Misau LGA, Bauchi State

Under the leadership of the Director, Disease Control and Immunization, Bauchi State Primary Health Care Board, the State Team and partners conducted a follow-up investigation in Gauya, Garin Malam Datti, Jarkasa Ward, Misau LGA, following a reported case of Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) during the March 2026 SNIPDs.

Laboratory results later confirmed the case as Polio Virus Type 2 (PV2). The investigation found that the child is alive, has exhibited AFP features, and has never received routine immunization, making the child a Zero-Dose child. The settlement also has a history of campaign rejection and poor routine immunization uptake, underscoring the need for stronger community engagement and demand creation for vaccination services.

We sincerely acknowledge the World Health Organization Nigeria for fully supporting this investigation.

This case further reflects the emerging presence of Circulating Polio Virus in some states, including Bauchi, Zamfara, and Niger, despite the continued efforts of government and partners to interrupt transmission across the country.

remains committed to promoting routine immunization, strengthening community trust, and supporting every effort to protect children from vaccine-preventable diseases.
