World Humanitarian Day 2025

This year’s theme, “Strengthening Global Solidarity and Empowering Local Communities,” emphasizes that meaningful humanitarian impact begins when we unite and ensure that no community is left behind.

At Helpline Social Support Initiative, we witness daily how resilience flourishes when local communities are empowered to take charge of their own development. From supporting widows and orphans to assisting other vulnerable groups in society, solidarity fosters dignity, hope, and progress.

On this World Humanitarian Day, let us recommit to building bridges of compassion, both globally and locally. Together, we can create a world where humanity thrives above all else.

In commemoration of International Widows’ Day 2025, Helpline Social Support Initiative (HSSI) hosted a transformative event themed "Empowering Widows: Building Resilience, Restoring Dignity" on Sunday, 22nd June, 2025.

It was an impactful day dedicated to recognizing the strength and struggles of widows, while advancing efforts that promote their well-being, financial independence, and social inclusion.

A heartfelt appreciation to the Honorable Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, for her tremendous support. Her generous cash gifts to each women cluster have provided vital resources for skill acquisition and financial empowerment.

We are also deeply grateful to the FCT Health Insurance Scheme and its Ag.Director, Dr. Salamatu Belgore, who, along with her team, enrolled all participating widows into the free health insurance scheme, ensuring access to quality healthcare.

Special thanks to all friends and partners of the Helpline Social Support Initiative President, Dr. Jumai Ahmadu, whose unwavering support made this event a true success.

In commemoration of International Women’s Day, Helpline Social Support Initiatives proudly launched its skill acquisition centre for women in Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

This milestone event, aimed at empowering women with practical skills for economic independence, was made possible through the generous support of the RTA Foundation.

The newly established centre is equipped with essential machinery for cassava processing into garri, as well as baking tools and other culinary equipment, ensuring that women in the community have access to practical training that will enhance their livelihoods.

By providing these resources, Helpline Social Support Initiatives is fostering self-reliance and entrepreneurship among women, reinforcing the significance of skill acquisition in economic empowerment.
