Prof began his journey on the mats of a Tsangaya in Bauchi State, memorizing Qur’an by lantern light. Today, Sheikh Professor Mansur Isa Yelwa stands as Head of Islamic Law at Bayero University, Kano.

The Foundation: Tsangaya Days
Born in Bauchi, Prof. Yelwa grew up in a strong Islamic learning environment. His first classroom was a traditional Qur’anic school where he built the foundation of his knowledge in Qur’an and Hadith.

The Climb: Madinah to Malaysia
That foundation took him to the Islamic University of Madinah, where he earned his LL.B in Islamic Law with First Class Honors. A Tsangaya student graduating top of his class in the city of the Prophet ï·º.

He didn’t stop there. At the International Islamic University Malaysia, he earned his LL.M and Ph.D in Comparative Law.

The Destination: Professorship
Today at BUK, Prof. Yelwa has risen from Senior Lecturer to Head of Department. He has strengthened Islamic Law curriculum and researched challenges facing Muslim minorities, religious transformation, and Islamic principles in modern law.

He serves on the Shariah Board of Salam Takaful Insurance and has authored books and academic papers presented globally.

From Tsangaya to Professorship. A journey of dedication, knowledge, and barakah.

An Igbo born and bred in Kano is, by this ruling, from now, an indigene Kano. Likewise the Igbo in Lagos or the Yoruba in Lagos Enugu, a Berom in Sokoto, etc.

We hope the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court will uphold the ruling perchance an appeal is made. That will be revolutionary. It will save lives and win rights for millions of citizens. It is a landmark on our path to nation building.

Congratulations, Nigeria. Congratulations to Justice Donglong for leading the revolution.
