NiNAS is the Nigerian national accreditation body that provides credible and cost-effective accreditation services with international recognition.

NiNAS is Nigeria's sole National Accreditation Body (NAB), providing internationally recognized, credible, and cost-effective accreditation services to enhance the nation’s quality infrastructure and foster confidence across all sectors of the economy NiNAS attests to the competence and impartiality of conformity assessment bodies (testing and calibration laboratories, certification and inspection bodies), according to international standards as issued by ISO/IEC.

STRENGTHENING ACCREDITATION ACROSS AFRICA 🌍

The AFRAC Technical Committee met in Gaborone as part of the 17th AFRAC General Assembly & Meetings.

Bringing together accreditation experts from across Africa, the Committee helps promote consistent approaches, technical cooperation and knowledge sharing across different areas of accreditation.

Its work is supported through Sub Committees covering Certification, Calibration and Testing, Inspection, and Medical.

Simply put, the Technical Committee helps strengthen the technical foundations on which confidence in accreditation is built.

𝗡𝗶𝗡𝗔𝗦 𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀' 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮'𝘀 𝗪𝗧𝗢 𝗧𝗕𝗧 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗢𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀

NiNAS participated in a TBT Stakeholders' Meeting held on 3rd September 2026, convened by the Standards Organisation of Nigeria - SON, acting as Nigeria's National Enquiry Point under the WTO Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Agreement. NiNAS was represented by its Program Manager for Inspection, Verification and Validation, Andrew Kosi Ugwu.

The meeting formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria's compliance with its WTO TBT obligations, with discussions touching on the roles of National Enquiry Points and the broader trade transparency framework under the WTO TBT Agreement and Annex 6 of the AfCFTA Agreement.

NiNAS remains committed to supporting Nigeria's trade transparency and standards compliance framework.

NiNAS accreditation extends across different conformity assessment activities.

From testing and inspection to management system certification, personnel certification and medical laboratory services, NiNAS accredits conformity assessment bodies (CABs) that demonstrate the required competence and impartiality to perform specified activities.

So, how does NiNAS accreditation work?

It starts with an assessment of the conformity assessment body—its competence, impartiality, processes and ability to consistently perform its specified activities.

Where the requirements are met, accreditation is granted for the defined scope, with continued monitoring to maintain confidence.

Why does this matter? Because competent conformity assessment helps build confidence in results, decisions and services—supporting quality, safety and trusted trade.

The Nigeria National Accreditation System (NiNAS) recently conducted an onsite assessment of Trybecheck Nigeria Limited in Akure, Ondo State, in accordance with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17020.

The assessment was carried out in line with NiNAS policies and procedures and forms part of the accreditation process, providing an opportunity to evaluate the organization’s inspection activities and relevant processes against the applicable requirements of the standard.

The Nigeria National Accreditation System (NiNAS) recently conducted an onsite assessment of Fleissen and Company Limited, located at Abia House, Central Business District (C*D), Abuja.

The assessment was conducted in accordance with the requirements of ISO 14065, 14066, 14064-3, ISO/IEC 17029 and NiNAS policies and procedures, forming part of the accreditation process and providing an opportunity to evaluate the organisation’s processes and activities against the applicable requirements for conformity assessment bodies.

The Medical Laboratory of Lily Hospitals, Limited, Warri, Delta State, has become the first hospital-based medical laboratory to be accredited by NiNAS to ISO 15189:2022 – Medical Laboratories – Requirements for Quality and Competence. The accreditation follows a rigorous assessment process to verify the laboratory’s technical competence and conformity with internationally recognized requirements.

NiNAS acknowledges this significant milestone and congratulates Lily Hospitals on achieving accreditation. We encourage medical laboratories across Nigeria to continue embracing internationally recognized standards that strengthen confidence in the quality and competence of laboratory services.
