🌿 WASH ABUJA CLEAN
THE HEALTH–ENVIRONMENT CONNECTION
🇳🇬 LEADERSHIP & CITIZEN RESPONSIBILITY
Mallam Nasir El-Rufai
Former Governor, Kaduna State
“Environmental degradation is not a natural disaster — it is a governance failure and a citizen failure combined.”
💭 OUR REFLECTION
Environmental problems do not belong to government alone.
And they do not belong to citizens alone.
We all have a role to play.
Government must provide effective waste management, drainage, sanitation services, environmental regulation, enforcement, and the infrastructure communities need to remain healthy.
But citizens also have responsibilities:
🗑️ Dispose of waste properly.
🚯 Stop dumping refuse in gutters and waterways.
🧹 Keep our frontages and communities clean.
💧 Protect our water sources.
🌱 Care for our environment.
📢 Speak up when environmental standards are neglected.
⚖️ ACCOUNTABILITY MUST WORK BOTH WAYS
We should hold our leaders accountable for the services and systems they are responsible for providing.
At the same time, we must hold ourselves accountable for the choices we make every day.
We cannot demand a clean city while contributing to its pollution.
We cannot blame blocked drains while throwing waste into them.
We cannot ask for a healthier Nigeria without becoming part of the solution.
🇳🇬 THE CHANGE WE WANT REQUIRES BOTH
Responsible leadership + responsible citizenship = healthier communities.
At WASH Abuja Clean, we believe accountability should not be about pointing fingers.
It should be about asking:
“What is my responsibility—and am I fulfilling it?”
Let's hold our leaders accountable.
Let's hold ourselves accountable.
And most importantly, let's take action.
🌿 Cleaner Environment. Healthier Nation. Shared Responsibility.
