😊I don't smoke ci******es, I only smoke sh**ha

You dey whine?😳

📍Shisha is an alternative to ci******es. 📍A single session could expose your lungs to smoke equivalent to smoking about 200 sticks of ci******es.

📍The to***co industry keeps producing "alternatives" offering varieties of harmful products to young people.

📍Alternatives smell better, look better and cooler to attract young people! Have you seen how sleek certain vapes look?

⁉️How do we save our children?

❗Our message is simple:

Gloria's Cancer Foundation - GCF was at the Nigerian To***co Control Alliance one-day stakeholders meeting to discuss the To***co Industry (TI) Interference Index 2025.
Grounded in article 5.3 of the WHO Framework Convention on To***co control, the index highlights continued tensions between public health interventions and corporate interference.

‎Key findings:
📌‎Nigeria scored 62 in 2025 an increase from 60 in 2023 and 53 in 2021. This shows an uptick in TI Interference due to sustained structural weakness which positions TI as stakeholders in national development.
📌‎No country is spared from TI interference although some are ahead in banning products and related CSR activities.
📌‎TI is aggressive, exploits policy loopholes, entices government and dilutes policies.

‎Summary of Index:
🔍‎Industry participation in policy development and Inclusion in technical committees shaping product standards.

🔍‎Exploitation of overlaps between health and trade institutions such as Federal ministry of health and Ministry of Trade and Investment.

🔍‎Introducing new emerging products on the market without warnings and all needed regulations

🔍‎Industry CSR activities. Government endorsement CSR converts this into political legitimacy.

🔍Unnecessary Interactions which which sustains visible significant ties with the political elite and reinforces legitimacy.

🔍Benefits to Industry: Weak enforcement and access to indirect privileges allows the Industry to thrive.

🔍Transparency: Required disclosures of government interactions by Nigeria To***co control laws are not strictly followed, thereby limiting meaningful public oversight.

🔍Conflict of Interest: Section 27 of the NTCA prohibits political donations from the industry. However the campaign financing system is opaque and difficult to track.

The Way Forward:
✅Ban TI CSR activities across public institutions
✅Remove TI from policy engagement and regulation processes.
✅Enforce transparency
✅Establish repository for TI Disclosures
✅Enforce 60% Pictorial health warnings and monitor compliance asi
✅Uphold fiscal measures for public health.

The report was developed with support from Bloomberg Philanthropies Global Centre for Good Governance in To***co control (GCTC) and Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA)

Over the last 40 years, colorectal cancer has tripled in incidence I'm Nigeria to become a top 5 cancer and second most prevalent cancer in Men.

Yesterday, in partnership with Global Colon Cancer Association we commemorated the Colorectal cancer awareness month with a HIKE.

We climbed all 5 sections of the KARSANA hills each point reaffirming our dedication to:
📍Keep creating awareness
📍Supporting colorectal cancer patients
📍Taking action through early detection
📍Understanding our risk factors
📍Modifying our lifestyles.

We had cancer survivors Maimurna Hassan Haruna, Gloria GeeCee Okwu and Agu Mercy Sopuruchi to share their stories and inspire hope.

The HIKE was attended by adults, adolescents, male, female and health personnel whose interest is to spread the word and reduce the incidence of colorectal cancer in Nigeria.

THIS IS A FIRST OF MANY. We are currently working with other interested organizations to commemorate this event beyond MARCH. Send us a DM if you want to HIKE for a cause!

Special thanks to our collaborators Okapi Children Cancer Foundation and Network of People impacted by Cancer in Nigeria

More than 9 million women were diagnosed with cancer worldwide in 2022.

Survival depends heavily on where a woman lives.

In many low- and middle-income countries:

🔸 Cervical cancer remains a leading cause of cancer death despite being largely preventable
🔸 Breast cancer is often diagnosed at later stages
🔸 Access to surgery, radiotherapy and essential medicines remains limited
🔸 Financial hardship forces families into poverty

Meanwhile, advances in prevention and treatment are accelerating globally.

Progress in women’s cancers must be matched with equitable access to prevention, screening, treatment and supportive care.

Everyone, everywhere deserves the right care.

As part of our programs, we ensure that women who have lost their breasts to cancer get prosthesis (fake breasts), post surgical bras, wigs for those undergoing chemo and scarves etc..

We have gotten these items for free from our donors in USA and Canada but we are looking for support or funds to get it to Nigeria.

We got these items for free and will give it out for free as well.

Please support this good cause!
